Green Bay – Lois Stewart died on May 21, 2011, in Green Bay, WI, after suffering a heart attack earlier in the month.
She was born on June 16, 1918, to Peter and Helen Wiersum in Kenosha. After she graduated from high school, Lois attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Later, she worked as a secretary for various firms in Chicago and Kenosha. Lois moved to Racine when she married Ben Stewart on September 7, 1946. She became a member of the Racine Bible Church, developing a Sunday School program for young children, and devoting herself to service in the church. She continued to work as a secretary for Equitable Life.
She was mother to Mary Jo Liesch (Don) of Green Bay and Peter (Maria Davila) of New York City; she is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Mark), Ben (Katie), Abby (Philip) and Beatriz; and five great-grandchildren, Sylvia, James, Gethin, Liesl and Ivan. Lois took great pleasure in swimming in Lake Michigan every summer, even in her 92nd year.
Services will be held at Racine Bible Church, 12505 Spring St., on Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a..m.
