John G. Murphy

John G. Murphy, age 89, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, at his residence. John was born in Racine on March 6, 1922, son of the late George and Emma (Nee: Schaefer) Murphy.

John was a graduate of Washington Park High School. On October 2, 1943, John was united in marriage to Iola Kaiser. He was in the Grocery business for about fifteen years and then employed at Thomas Supply for 35 years until his retirement in 1987.

John was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. In his youth, John enjoyed playing 16” softball. John cherished time spent with his family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Iola of nearly 68 years; 11 children: Susan (William) Miller, Patricia (James) Holub, Ann Pavilonis (Norm McPhee) of Racine; Mary (Thomas) Gustin of Stevens Point, WI, Michael (Rebecca) Murphy of Coon Valley, WI, Mark Murphy of Racine, Ruth (Felix) Morgan of Albuquerque, NM, Rita (Luis) Gomez of Hercules, CA, John (Felicia) Murphy of Racine, Paul (Michelle) Murphy of Pflugerville, TX, Jane (Reza) Taheri of San Jose, CA; 26 grandchildren, Patricia Miller, John (Michele) Miller, James (Joanna) Holub, Pamela (Terry) Cisewski, Gregory Pavilonis, Martin (Tracy) Pavilonis, T.R. (Jennifer) Gustin, Heather Gustin, Emily Murphy, Sarah Murphy, Joseph Murphy, Bevin Murphy, Tony (Denise) Johnson, Tammy Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Jessica (Jon) Ellison, Alex Gomez. Amy Gomez, Russell (Lisa) Murphy, Leah Murphy, Kathryne , Kristina, Johnathan and Joshua Murphy, Kiana Taheri and Nicole Taheri; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Hub Braun, James (Rita) Kaiser and Dorothy Murphy; nieces nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his in-laws, Vincen and Susan Kaiser; sisters, Jean Braun, Alice (Orville) Finsen; brother James Murphy; sisters-in-law, Rae Ann Kaiser, Harriet (Sam) Ferraro; and son-in-law, James DeGroot.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. William Dietzler officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy. 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family for visitation on Tuesday, May 31, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and also on Wednesday from 12:30 until time of Mass at the church.
