Margaret “Peggy” L. Anderson, age 89, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011, at her residence. Margaret was born in Racine, May 28, 1921, daughter of the late Frederick O. and Margaret (Nee: Weiffenbach) Oertel.
Peggy was a graduate of Racine High School. On February 9, 1946, at Holy Name Church she was united in marriage to Max L. Anderson who preceded her in death, September 24, 1984. Peggy was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church and Altar Sodality. Through the years she enjoyed time spent at the YWCA, various bowling leagues, her ladies card club, and was a member of the Wisconsin Electric Womens’ Auxiliary. Above all she will be best remembered as a sweet loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great neighbor and friend.
Survivors include her six children, Gary (Barbara) Anderson of Hales Corners, Ryan (Sue) Anderson of Racine, Mark (Jane) Anderson of Madison, Gretchen (Scott) Poulsen of Madison, Wendy Anderson of Sacramento, CA, Jean (Jeff) Brehm of Racine; her seventeen grandchildren, Meghan (Bill) Steinmeyer, Gary (Jill) Anderson, Emily (Chris) Wentworth, Melissa (Dr. Jon) Haigh, Ryan (Erin) Anderson, Kyle (Ericka) Anderson, Sara Anderson, Jess Anderson, Matt Anderson (Amy Furman), Dr. Keith (Dr. Beth) Poulsen, Julie (Mike) Monahan, Stephanie Wild, Max (Christina) Wild, Joseph Wild, Laura (Travis) Zaremba, Craig Brehm (Emily Hansen), Luke Brehm; fourteen great-grandchildren and four more due this summer; sisters-in-law, Betty Oertel, Anne Oertel, Gloria Oertel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her nine siblings, Alice, Colleta, Frederick III, Lawrence, Richard, Constance, Charles, Jerome and James.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 5 p.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., with Rev. Allen J. Bratkowski officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the church from 4 p.m. until time of Mass at 5 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Harmony Club at Lincoln Lutheran have been suggested.
Peggy’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Mark DeCheck and the entire staff at the Elizabeth Residence for their loving and compassionate care.
