Wayne Marie: yes, her name is Wayne. Her father picked it because he knew a girl with that name and liked it. Though it created unusual situations for her – some funny, some frustrating – it certainly was the right name for her. A lifelong Racine County resident, she graduated from Park High. She lived and taught the 4-H motto: "To make the best better." Excellent, self-taught seamstress and quilt maker: taught tailoring, sewing, cooking 27 years at Gateway Technical College; Quilting classes and Doll Club at Sew ‘N Save, 4-H Quilting Leader, Capsule College, co-owner of The Cloth Horse. Awards: 1982 Outstanding 4-H Leader; 1994 Franksville Business’ Community Service; Friend of Extension; 2000 Racine Mayor Official Proclamation. Lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Board of Trustees, chaired annual Church Bazaar, Director Methodist Youth Fellowship, Happy Quilters, United Methodist Women.

Above all, she devoted her life to her family and to helping youth. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her husband, Wally; their children: Judith D. Schulz (Doug Harris), Burlington; Karen R. (David) Gropman, Mill Rift PA; David W. (Stacy) Schulz, Mequon; Scott C. (Jenny) Schulz, Racine; six grandchildren: Meta and Katrin Schulz-Berg, Elizabeth and Yale Gropman, Aubree and Alec Schulz; brother, Herbert Earl C (Marilyn) Kappel of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Of Wayne Marie's many accomplishments and recognitions, one of her greatest is as mother of and inspiration to Judith Schulz, who continues her mother's legacy of service and dedication, domestic and pedagogical arts, and of pumping energy into every relationship or organization she joins.

Judith had the privilege and burden of continuously caring for Wayne throughout her final season of life. All who loved Wayne owe Judith gratitude. There is no replacing Wayne, though Judith succeeds her as yet another remarkable woman of her families' pioneer spirit.
