Mary Margaret (Brinck) Mohrbacher
Mary Margaret Mohrbacher found peace December 27, 2009, two days after celebrating her 97th birthday surrounded by her family who loved her dearly.
Known affectionately as “Honey” to her family and as“Monnie” to her friends, her smile, grand sense of humor, and love for storytelling captivated those around her. A very special lady. Ever the life of the party, she sipped her champagne and danced the Charleston with grace and elegance, always with a wink. A wordsmith and lover of language, she took great pleasure in completing New York Times crossword puzzles. She had a zest for life, a charming presence, and a dazzling sparkle in her eyes. In her passing, Monnie’s charismatic and witty spirit will be missed by all.
Born on Christmas Day in 1912 to Mary Colgan Breusing and Edward Charles Brinck in Springfield, IL, Monnie soon moved to Racine with her mother, special father Joseph Redler, and sister, Frances, where she attended Franklin Junior High, Washington Park High and Moore’s Business College.
Monnie’s marriage to Adolph “Pete” Peterson was blessed with a daughter, Judy Ann in 1936, following her parents’ representation of S.C. Johnson’s at the Century of Progress in Chicago (1934).
On August 28, 1943, she and Leon C. “Bud” Reiher were married by the late Reverend Kenneth Hurst who also baptized their son, James Colgan Reiher, born on August 3, 1944. They spent almost 25 wonderful years together before his passing on May 23, 1968. Bud’s daughter, Doreen Millman lives in Westminster, CO.
Renewal of a long-time friendship led to marriage to Charles “Chuck” Mohrbacher on October 7, 1972, in Key Biscayne, FL, which ended all too soon with his death in 1979. His daughter Trina lives in Ottawa, IL with her husband, Tim Creedon, and her two daughters, Morgan (Chicago) and Latham (USN).
Monnie volunteered at both St. Luke’s and St. Mary’s Hospitals, and with Betty Miller, co-chaired the first talent committee for Cardiac Capers, which she named. She was active in the Children’s Theatre with the late Fae Krause, “The Puppet Lady,” performing in schools, churches, and other organizations. In Fort Lauderdale, she made tapes for Insight for the Blind to help the visually handicapped, who received them at no cost. Monnie was also a member of the National Honor Society, The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., Preservation Racine, and The Racine Literacy Council.
In 1996, Monnie competed in the Miss Senior Wisconsin pageant at Horlick High School where she performed her favorite dance, the Charleston. Quoting the Racine Journal Times, she “wowed the crowd as she swung her pearls and did the Charleston in her jazzy red flapper dress.” At 83, she won the Lillian Gutknecht Award for being the oldest contestant. She told the crowd, “I believe in the three ‘R’s. Respect, Responsibility and Resourcefulness.” And with a wink, “Oh, one more. Romance.”
Survived by daughter Judy (Peterson) Vance Siebert (Tom) of Racine; son James C. Reiher and friend Paula Larsen of Delafield, WI; grandsons, Jefferson Vance, Racine, Joshua Christian Reiher, Madison, WI; granddaughters, Cindi Smith (Mike), Racine, Shiloh Roehl (Dan), Alexandria, VA, Alissa King (Matt), Portland, OR; great-grandson, Paul Vance (Rhonda), Racine, Lucas Roehl, Alexandria, VA; great-great-granddaughters, Jodi Vance and Haley Ann Vance.
Preceded in death besides her parents, husbands, and sister, are son-in-law Paul Vance; and daughter-in-law, Sally Spurgeon Reiher; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and other family members, not forgetting dear friends, as well.
Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Maresh-Meredith Funeral Home, 803 Main St., from 11 a.m. until the time of Memorial Service at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to The Racine Literacy Council or a favorite charity.

It's hard to explain the power of her presence to someone who's never been fixed by that kind of determination, the kind that carries you through two wars and a Great Depression, ten brothers and sisters and three children and eight grandchildren and a world that changed so much from the beginning of her life to the end that she barely recognized it.
Until her fingers could hardly hold the clothespins, she hung the washing on a line in the back yard to dry. She'd stand at the top of the stairs and yell down the names of all the kids and grandkids and everyone else she knew until she got to the one who answered. She said the rosary and went to church until she couldn't. She fought until she couldn't, too, to live the life she wanted to, one in which her table always had a place for family and her porch swing a seat for anyone who needed her comfort or advice.
When she was in the hospital four years ago, she got the nurses to sneak her candy and when one couldn't find a vein to draw blood she offered to stick herself. She let her daughter wear her wedding dress as a Halloween costume and taught her grandchildren to make perfect pie crusts. Two weeks before she died she was instructing the aides in her nursing home about what kind of cupcakes to make for their children.
Everyone's world spun on her axis, the strong center around which our joy revolved. Life without her seems impossible. But she's gone, and life is possible. She made it possible.

Joseph Pavelcik
Joseph Pavelcik, 77, passed away at home while asleep on December 19, 2009. He was born on August 17, 1932, in Racine to Joseph Pavelcik, Sr. and Mary (Konicek) Pavelcik.
Joe graduated from St. John Nepomuk Elementary School and St. Catherine's High School. In 1957 he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Marquette University. On May 25, 1957, he married Lorraine Denig. Joe did not immediately look for employment after graduation since he and Lorraine had long planned a honeymoon in Europe. Flying out of Chicago to Shannon Airport, Ireland, they spent ten weeks touring seven countries, usually sleeping at youth hostels, but also visiting relatives in Germany.
Joe worked for over thirty years at J.I. Case Co. as a technical writer. He wrote the text for service manuals and operator manuals for agricultural and construction machinery and also coordinated the photographic and mechanical aspects involved in completing the manuals. He retired in May, 1993.
Previous to the onset of arthritis, Joe loved to fish at the family's cottage at Lake Winnebago. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf and just being outdoors. Except for the last few years, he always had a novel at hand (often Stephen King.)
Joe was diligent in finishing anything he started. He was careful to attend to details so as to make whatever he was doing turn out just right. He was faithful to friends and family and generous in outlook.
Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine; nephews, James (Sherry) McClure, Joseph (Linda) McClure, David Neu, Gary Neu, Charles (Gretchen) Neu, and James (Kay) Denig; nieces, Debra Neu, Dawn (Jeff) Martinez, Paula Barrett, and Susan Krupp; sister-in-law, Roseanne (John)Worrell. Theodore 'Ted' Rawlinko
Theodore “Ted” Rawlinko, 87, left his earthly life on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, with his family by his side, to be reunited with his brothers and sister in Heaven – where life has no end.
Ted was born in Synewidsko Niece, Ukraine, on September 23, 1922, to the late Michael and Maria (nee: Zenko) Rawlinko. At the young age of 17, he escaped from the communist Soviet Union occupation of the Ukraine, the only one from his family who was ever able to taste the freedom of the United States. It broke his heart to leave his family – knowing he would never see them again. Although his heart was here in America, his soul remained in the Ukraine.
It was in Germany that Ted met and married Elisabeth Hena. They were married on August 19, 1950. Ted and Elisabeth came to the United States in 1951 and were proud members of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Nobody worked harder than Ted. During his career, he was employed in the Belgium Coal Mines, worked for the railroad in Germany, Patrick Cudahy, Racine Steel Castings and Rainfair, from where he retired in 1985 after 33 years of service. Ted enjoyed dancing, playing the accordion, bike riding, playing cards and watching sports – especially the Brewers and Packers. Above all, Ted knew and treasured the true value of family and cherished every moment together with them.
Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Elisabeth; their children, Steven (Carol) Rawlinko, Gregory Rawlinko and Rosemarie (Joel) Borgardt, all of Racine; adored grandchildren, Kyle Borgardt of Milwaukee and Allyson Borgardt of Racine; sister-in-law, Martha (Hans) Matzka of Germany; and many other dear relatives and friends, both in the United States and the Ukraine.
Funeral services will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at 4 p.m. with Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Private interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery. In memory of Ted, memorials to Racine Lutheran High School or to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church of Milwaukee have been suggested.
A special thanks to Dr. Brennan, Dr. Dhingra, and the nursing staff at All Saints Dialysis – West for the compassionate care of Ted through seven years of dialysis. A heartfelt note of thanks to the cardiac ICU for the care and support of Ted during his final hours. May God bless all of you!
