Margaret F. Akin (nee: Smith), 87, passed away at Willow Crest Care Center on Wednesday, December 30, 2009.
Margaret was born in Racine to the late Raymond and Martha (nee: Gotsche) Smith on September 23, 1922, and had lived in Racine most of her life. In Racine on June 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Donald Akin, who preceded her in death on April 12, 1993.
Mrs. Akin was employed at First National Bank for 36 years and retired in 1987. She was a former member of the Community Church in Manitowish Waters. She was also a member of the Greater Racine Kennel Club because she loved dogs and she treated them as if they were her children. She was an avid card player and belonged to many Bridge clubs. She enjoyed camping and fishing in Manitowish Waters.
Margaret is survived by her two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Joyce Akin of Racine and Richard (Dolores) Akin of Kenosha; four nephews; two nieces; and other relatives and friends. She was also preceded death by a brother-in-law, Gordon, on March 18, 2006.
Memorial services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday, January 3, 2010, at 6 p.m. with Rev. David Echelbarger officiating. Inurnment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Countryside Humane Society.
