Ernest F. Yunk

Ernest Frank Yunk, 84, passed in peace, surrounded by his family on Friday, December 11, 2009, at Sheridan Medical Complex in Kenosha.

Ernest was born in March 12, 1925, to the late Henry T. and Wanda (nee: Knuth) Junk in Exeland and had lived in Racine for 63 years. He was united in marriage to Josephine M. Minneti on September 18, 1948.

Mr. Yunk proudly served as a U.S. Naval Gunnery Mate Seaman 3rd class in the Asian-Pacific Theater where he fought in New Guinea, The Philippines, Okinawa and Iwo Jima from 1943 to 1945. After WWII, he was employed at J.I. Case Co. for 37 years until his retirement. Ernest was an active person who was involved in Case Co. UAW Local 180, the 57th Amphibious fleet, was a lifetime member of The Wisconsin Sportsmen Association. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, loved woodworking, furniture-making, and helped build many local churches including the old St. Mary’s, Holy Trinity, and both the old and new St. Paul’s. He was also a member of St. Paul the Apostle.

Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Josephine M. Yunk; children, Margaret A. (Michael) Stacey, Ernest H., Diana R. Clark, Raymond H.; grandchildren, Ann M. Stacey, Christopher Hesthaven, Michael P. Stacey II; great-grandchild, Cayden Hesthaven; nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Elmer, Edgar, Erwin, Earl, and Everett.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Yunk will be at 10 a.m on Wednesday December 16, 2009, at St Paul the Apostle, 6400 Spring St., with Father William J. Dietzler officiating. Entombment with full military honors will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy. 32. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, and at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
