Mary Suzanne 'Sue' (Hamilton) Burke

Mary Suzanne “Sue” Burke, age 71, passed away Friday, December 11, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center from complications of pneumonia. Sue was born in Racine, September 10, 1938, daughter of the late Robert L. and Mary E. (Nee: Schoonover) Hamilton Sr.

Sue attended St. Catherine’s High School and graduated from Rosemont College, PA, with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. Furthering her education she received a Paralegal Degree from Carthage College. On April 15, 1961, she was united in marriage to Jack Burke who preceded her in death, June of 2000. She was employed for many years as a social worker with Racine County Human Service Department. In her youth, Sue had a passion for riding horses and was an avid tennis player for much of her life. She also had a love of books and had developed an interest in computers. Her relationship with Christ continued to grow and she accepted Jesus as her savior. Sue’s true joy in life was her constant ever-loving devotion for her five children. She fought the good fight and was a four-time cancer survivor. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Colleen Burke (Chris Bergseth), Maureen Burke (Scott Sharp), John (Ann) Burke Jr., Kevin (Marcia) Burke, Timothy (Rachelle) Burke; seven grandchildren who brought joy and laughter to Sue’s life, Tiarra Jackson, Alissa and Johnny Burke, Reese Burke, Connor, Collin, and Caden Burke; sister, Nancy Ritter; brothers, Robert (Rachel) Hamilton Jr., Richard (Shirley) Hamilton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Donald Ritter Sr.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until time of service.
