Rose Mary (Zamagne) Cowan

Rose Mary Cowan, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 11, 2009. She was born in Racine WI, on March 17, 1924, to Peter and Caroline (Nee: Zannani) Zamagne.

On April 4, 1944, she married Lewis Cowan who preceded her in death on January 6, 1969. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church. She attended schools in Racine and worked at J.I. Case during WW II as a riveter and then worked at InSinkErator for 31 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, watching the Packers and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Dennis) Oertel; granddaughter, Lisa (Scott) Acker; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jonathan and Alyssa Acker, all of Racine. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Schulz, Helen Zamagne and Sandra (Reynold) Polkky of Racine; and many nephews and nieces. Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Eric Oertel; her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Peter (Beverly) Zamagne Jr.;, brothers-in-law, Leonard Zellman and Edward Schulz; and special friend, John Lawrence; as well as other brothers- and sisters-in-law.

In respect of her wishes a private funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr Mullane and staff, Dr Martini and Sue, the staff at Home Harbor, and Odyssey Hospice who lovingly cared for her around the clock.
