Margaret M. Ulrich-Wiley

Margaret M. (nee: Zacharias) Ulrich-Wiley, 90, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at her residence. She was born on January 28, 1919, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Jane (nee: Scholar) Zacharias of Oak Mills, KS. Margaret grew up on her family’s farm until her marriage to Bernard E. Ulrich, Jr. on March 26, 1938, at the First Christian Church.

While residing in Atchison, KS, she was employed by the Atchison Public Schools as a cook at the high school and later manager at Franklin Grade School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, on November 13, 1977. On February 1, 1984, at the First Christian Church in Atchison, KS, Margaret was united in marriage to Shannon E. Wiley.

In 1984 they moved to Leavenworth, KS. Together they did extensive traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Leavenworth. After Shannon’s death on March 25, 2001, Margaret moved to Racine to be with her daughter, Carolyn, and her family. She attended First Baptist Church of Racine.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Ronald) Guthery of Franksville; son, Daniel (Nancy) Ulrich of Salina, KS; step-sons, Bruce (Becki) Wiley and Willard (Angie) Wiley all of Leavenworth, KS; step-daughter, Karen (Dick) Works of Humboldt, KS; niece, Vera (Joe) Utara of Topeka, KS; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. She further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends in Kansas and Racine.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Herbert and Lawrence Zacharias; nephew, Larry Zacharias; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday, December 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Holly Anderle officiating. There will be a time to meet with family and friends from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. In keeping with Margaret’s wishes her ashes will be placed in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS.

Memorial donations to Hospice Alliance, Inc., 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd. Pleasant Prairie, WI. 53158, or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested by the family.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Harmony Commons and Hospice Alliance for their kind and compassionate care they gave Margaret.
