Rev. David F. Monroe

Rev. David Franklin Monroe, 61, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 12, 2009.

David F. Monroe was born in Danville, Illinois, to the late Thomas Franklin and Jennie Lavon (nee: Cunningham) Monroe on January 18, 1948. He had lived in Racine for 11 years. In Danville, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Donna Darlene Dearing on January 21, 1968.

Rev. David Monroe graduated with a religion degree from Olivet Nazarene University in 1971. He had been a minister for the Church of the Nazarene for 38 years. Rev. Monroe served on the Wisconsin District Advisory Board and the Ministerial Studies Committee. He ministered in four different church locations: McLouth, Kansas, for nine years; Casey, Illinois, for six years; Urbana, Illinois, for 12 years; and in Racine, Wisconsin, at the Taylor Avenue Church of the Nazarene for the past 11 years where he served as senior pastor. Rev. Monroe also served as a volunteer chaplain for the Urbana, Illinois, Fire Department in emergency services. His hobbies include: chess, fishing, camping, playing acquire and spending precious time with his family and friends.

Rev. Monroe will be dearly missed by his wife, Donna, of 41 years; his children, Jonathan David Monroe of Champaign, Illinois, Sarah Elizabeth (David) Ludwig of Crest Hill, Illinois, and Deborah Ruth Monroe of Racine, Wisconsin; one brother, Elba Lee (Jean) Monroe of Fort Myers, Florida; and one sister, Becky Sue (Greg) Miller of Oakwood, Illinois; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Franklin and Jennie Lavon Monroe; and one brother, Stanley Bruce Monroe.

Funeral services will be held at the Taylor Avenue Church of the Nazarene, 2100 Taylor Ave., Racine, Wisconsin, on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Randy Burkner officiating with Rev. David Ludwig and Rev. Derl Keefer assisting. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, from 4 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

A second funeral service will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2212 N. Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois, on Friday, December 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Ludwig and Rev. Dave Anderson officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment services for Rev. David F. Monroe will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to Taylor Avenue Church of the Nazarene, 2100 Taylor Ave., Racine, Wisconsin, 53403.
