Ione Charlotte (Isaacson) Oertel

Ione Charlotte (Isaacson) Oertel went to be with her Lord on December 23, 2009. She was born October 9, 1915, to Marcus and Anna (nee: Peterson) Isaacson.

On September 2, 1939, she married Warren “Butch” Oertel at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Racine where she was baptized and confirmed. She was an active member there, belonging to the Luther League, Circles, and Prayer Chain. Ione also taught Sunday school and VBS and served on many committees through the years. She and Warren were also a part of the group who organized the Ridge Runners Square Dance Club. Before her marriage she was employed at Hartman Trunk and Luggage Company in Racine. Later she went to work at Sentry Foods. She loved to knit and made many sweaters for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Rev. Richard (Jean) Oertel of Sturgeon Bay, daughter Susan Lynn Oertel of Sturtevant; grandchildren, Paul (Ayako) Oertel of Kodaira, Japan, and Susan Ruth Oertel of West Allis; great-grandchildren, Amber, Pearl and Andrew Oertel (Japan); an adopted daughter in her heart, Ginny White of Sturtevant; brothers, Richard Isaacson of Racine, Robert Isaacson of Tacoma, Washington, and Paul (Deloris) Isaacson of Sturtevant; sisters-in-law Hilary Isaacson of Union Grove, Juanita Oertel of Racine. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren, “Butch;” brothers, Adrian, Merlin, and Milton Isaacson; brothers-in-law Henry, Edward, and Clifford Oertel; sisters-in-law Angie, Evelyn, Jeanette and Mary Isaacson.

Visitation will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2219 Washington Ave., on Saturday, Dec. 26, from 9-11 a.m. Service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tracy Polzin officiating. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church are suggested.
