Mrs. Jean L. (Phillips) Dorman

Jean Shaine Lillian Phillips Dorman, age 85, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Milwaukee Jewish Home. She was born in Rochester, NY, on May 28, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Morris and Esther (nee: Sklaroff) Phillips and the wife of the late State Senator Henry Dorman.

Mrs. Dorman graduated from the University of Rochester and received her MSW from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her life’s work centered on community service, whether it was through her professional employment as a social worker (Milwaukee Jewish Family Services, Racine Family Services, Racine Mental Health Clinic, Racine Unified School District) or through her numerous volunteer activities, all of which focused on the betterment of humankind. She loved music, theatre, ballet, reading and traveling the world. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and baubie who will be dearly missed.

Surviving her are four loving daughters, Robin Dorman (and husband, Robert LeBell) of Milwaukee, Wendy Dorman of Washington, D.C., Lynne Dorman (and husband, Robert Reisley) of Philadelphia, PA, Heidi Dorman (and husband, Brett Sweezy) of Sagle, ID; five grandchildren, Jolie and Hallie LeBell, Alexander and Danielle Reisley, and Jacob Sweezy; a brother, Dr. Harvey and Alyne Phillips of Rochester, NY; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Lesley Dorman of Washington, DC, Elaine Schwimmer of San Carlos, CA; nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her older brother, Manuel Phillips.

A Memorial Service will be held at Beth Israel Sinai Congregation, 944 Main St., on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a contribution to a charity of your choice in her memory.
