Everett Gordon Laehr, 87, passed away at Becker Shoop Center on Thursday, November 26, 2009.
Everett G. Laehr was born in Racine to the late Alexander and Elles (nee: Madsen) Laehr on March 22, 1922. He had lived in Racine his whole life and was united in marriage to Irene M. Hudak on June 29, 1946. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2003.
Mr. Laehr was a lifelong member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church and served as Head Usher for over 20 years. He was proud to serve in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was awarded two Bronze Star medals. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and baseball, and enjoyed sharing those times with his family. He was noted as a talented pitcher and played softball for many years. Most importantly, he was a family man and focused much of his life on his family.
Everett will be dearly missed by his children, Randy Laehr of Racine, Sandy (Don) Miller of Franksville, and Barbara Laehr of Racine; six grandchildren, Jody, Jeff, Sarah, Carrie, Julie, and Fred; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Tomm; and other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Carl (Beverly) Laehr; and one brother-in-law, Harold Tomm.
Funeral services will be held at Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3319 Washington Ave., on Friday, December 4, 2009, at noon with Rev. Crystal Steinberg officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 11 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be directed to Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church.
