Oscar Harlan Heried

Oscar Harlan Heried, age 80, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. Oscar was born on March 1, 1929, in Soldiers Grove, WI, to Soren and Ingeborg Heried. He was baptized and raised in the Lutheran faith.

On November 10, 1950, in Soldiers Grove, WI, he was united in marriage to Ona Belle Stalsberg. They lived in Racine all of their married life. Oscar was employed by Walker Manufacturing, Hamm’s Beer Distributors and Lakeshore Distributors until his retirement in 1991. He was an avid Cubs fan. Oscar coached Little League teams and was involved with the Racine Redbirds Baseball Club. He loved music, enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in his beautiful yard. Oscar enjoyed Friday morning coffee with lifelong friends Willie West, Dick Matson and Dick Gross. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Ona, of 59 years; his children, Robert (Laetitia) Heried of Bethesda, MD, Jackie (Todd) Dunham of McNaughton, WI, Dan (Cyndi) Heried of Shelbyville, KY, Lori (Fred) Chiappetta of Racine, Tom (Laura) Heried of Racine; his grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer Heried, Amy (Rob) Stensberg, Matthew (Kelleigh) Dunham, Sara and Katelyn Dunham, Chad (Rebecca) Johnson, Danielle (Chris) Waldridge, Tony and Nick Chiappetta, Abby and Emilie Heried; and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Baker Kerr of Kalamazoo, MI; many nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog, “Molly.” In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers; his brother-in-law, Lee Baker; and his grandson Caleb Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Creighton Kaye officiating. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to the Countryside Humane Society have been suggested.
