Gordon A. Anton, 94, passed away at Burlington Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 22, 2009. Gordon was born in Racine on October 25, 1915, the son of Alfred and Elsie (nee: Kriz) Anton.
Gordon was a “1933” graduate of Wm. Horlick High School. He was united in marriage to Susan Kimmer in Racine on October 22, 1938.
Gordon was employed as a dispatcher for Commercial Truckers for 42 years, retiring in 1975. He was a proud member of the Racine Yacht Club, Shriners, Masons, Danish Brotherhood, Civil Air Patrol and the Coast Guard Reserve. Gordon was very involved in the Racine Raider’s Chain Gang, semi-pro baseball, 50 years Big Liefs Bowling and the Horlick High School Class of “1933” K.I.T. Club.
Gordon is survived by one son, Ronald (Sue) Anton of Rochester; two daughters, Linda (Terry) Hort of Union Grove and Janet (Bill) Simon of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Chris (Amy Barthel) Anton of Colorado, Corey (Val) Anton of Grandview, Michigan, Sam Simon and James Simon, both of Fort Atkinson, Kari (John Willard) Berens and Beth (Eric) Tepley all of Racine. He is further survived by two great grandsons, Jackson of Racine and Caiden of Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Kayla of Racine and one sister, Delores Scheller. Gordon is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan on February 27, 2000; one brother and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Nepomuk, 700 English St., on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. Private entombment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until mass time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children, 2211 North Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60635 have been suggested.
