Joyce M. Havican, age 77, passed away on Saturday August 27, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Joyce was born November 22, 1933, in Racine, daughter of the late William and Arline Lettsome.
On June 28, 1969, she was united in marriage at St. Rita Catholic Church to Donald Martin Havican. Her beloved Don preceded her in death on June 19, 2001.
Joyce attended Lamberton School and graduated from William Horlick High School in June 1951, and spent her entire life living in Racine. She worked at Society’s Assets as a telephone operator for the hearing impaired and later provided in-home health care for the elderly. Joyce enjoyed canning, and was known for her canned hot peppers, tomatoes and beets, which we all looked forward to each year. She also enjoyed reading and attending church at St Rita, where she had been a member and strong supporter since 1969. Most of all, she truly enjoyed family and spending time with her grandkids.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Brian (Rebecca) Havican of Racine; grandchildren, Madeline and Abigail; brother and sister-in-law, Dan (Dianne) Lettsome of Escondido, CA; and many other dear relatives as well as many dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Kevin Mullins OSA officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St Rita School, “In memory of Joyce Havican.”
