SOUTH MILWAUKEE – Frances E. (nee: Walquist) Nelson, 91, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2009, at Franciscan Villa in South Milwaukee. She was born in Racine on November 24, 1917, the daughter of Magnus R. and Caroline (nee: Nelson) Walquist.
Frances was united in marriage to Leroy H. Nelson on October 23, 1936. She graduated from Washington Park High School. Frances lived in Racine for 59 years, then in Bradenton, FL, for 28 years and most recently in the Milwaukee area for the last four years, to be closer to family. She was an active church member wherever she lived and had been a member of the 5th Street Yacht Club.
Surviving are her children, Marjorie (Jim) Gorrell of Campbell, CA, Sharan (Carson) Lunde of Cudahy, Lee (Barb) Nelson of Bettendorf, IA, and John (Carol) Nelson of Las Vegas, NV; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Tharinger of Austin, TX. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy, on January 5, 1999; parents; five brothers and a sister.
Memorial services for Frances will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, February 13, 2009, at noon with Rev. John Bodnar officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday before services from 11 a.m. until time of service. Private Interment will be at West Lawn Memorial Park.
