LaVerne Lema Nowak, age 89, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Kenosha following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Kenosha on May 5, 1919, daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Nee: Osborne) DeBauche.
LaVerne was a very down to earth lady, simple and sweet, caring very much for her Savior and for her family. She loved and was loved. Her beautiful smile melted the hearts of her family and everyone she came in contact with. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all those she is survived by.
Surviving are her children, Robert (Treasa) Lema, Judith (Richard) Pirk; daughter-in-law, Julie Lema; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Phillip (Elaine) Erdman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Madalin and James McCarthy, Jane Lema, Remi and Kay Lema, Darlene and Richard Larsen;many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn (Jake) Erdman, Edward (Mable) DeBauche, her first husband and father of her children, Julius “Duke” Lema; her second husband, Steve Nowak; her son, Edward Lema; a grandson, Richard Pirk Jr.; 2 great-grandsons, David and William Pirk; 2 sisters, Dorothy DeBauche and Joyce Davidson; 2 brothers, Edward (Kay) Erdman and Robert (Elaine) Erdman; and two brothers-in-law, Leo Lema and Edward Lema.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 9122 Durand Ave., Sturtevant, with Reverend Richard Rogers officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the nurses, doctors, and caregivers at Golden Living Center, and to Asera Care Hospice for their wonderful care given to our mother and grandmother.
