Julius M. Silvasi

Julius M. Silvasi, age 82, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Ridgewood Care Center. He was born in Racine May 31, 1926, son of the late Julius and Mary (Nee: Kinik) Silvasi and had been a lifetime resident.

On July 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Yanzito to whom he had been married for 61 years. Julius proudly served his country from 1944-1946 with the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in the Pacific. He also served in the Korean War from 1950-1952. Julius retired from Western Publishing Co in 1988 after working there 33 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local #43, a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of V.F.W. Post 1391, a member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of Roma Lodge. Julius was an avid golfer but most of all he treasured the time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Linda (Kevin) Kelly; a son, David (Annette) Silvasi; grandchildren, Maggie (Bennie) Volpendesta, Peter and Paul Silvasi; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Domanico Volpendesta; a sister, Margaret (Tom) Matter; sister-in-law, Loretta Papara; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara; his twin brother, Steve; his sister, Marion Meier; also his parents, grandparents, brothers-in-law, Ben Yanzito, Richard Yanzito, and Ernest Papara.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 20, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., with Reverend Ronald Crewe and Reverend Brian Holbus officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at church, from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
