Dorothy P. Sucharda, age 87, passed away Tuesday June 2, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Dorothy was born in Gary, Indiana, on January 14, 1922, daughter of the late Bert and Margaret (Nee: Baess) Peterson.
Dorothy was a graduate of William Horlick High School and a cheerleader for the “Class of 1937.” On October 28, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Lee E. Sucharda Sr. who preceded her in death, August 23, 1993. Dorothy and her family owned and operated Lee’s Charcoal Grill on Douglas Avenue for twenty years. She was also employed by Design North for thirty years. She was a member of Grace Church. Dorothy’s pastimes included fishing, gardening, reading, and volunteering for community projects. Most of all she treasured time spent with her family at their summer home in Three Lakes. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lee (Gail) Sucharda Jr.; her grandson, Lee (Loni) Sucharda III; her granddaughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Orth; her four great-grandchildren, Paulina and Alec Sucharda, Gabriella and Jonathon Orth; sister-in-law, Virginia Sucharda; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Church, 3626 Hwy 31, on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dan Petersen officiating. Private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Multiple Myeloma and Leukemia Foundation or to Grace Church have been suggested.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dan and Shirley, Cole and Maria, Suzanne, the Elders of Grace Church, Christopher David, Dr. Odders and the staff at the Cancer Clinic for their loving and compassionate care.
