Orville R. Canfield

Somers – Orville Ross Canfield, 79, beloved husband of Patricia J. (nee: Jornt) Canfield, was born into Eternal Life on Wednesday evening, June 3, 2009.

Orv was born in Racine on September 6, 1929, to the late Orville H. and Clara (nee: Janssen) Canfield. Baptized at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, he attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School, Racine and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1948.

Orv faithfully served our Country with the United States Army- 82nd Airborne in the Korean War. On September 6, 1952, in St. George Catholic Church, Kenosha, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Patricia J. Jornt.

Living and breathing the color “brown” for so many years, Orv was proudly employed by United Parcel Service (known worldwide as UPS) beginning in 1952. He was transferred by UPS to Phoenix / Tucson, AZ, for nearly 9 years; then to Laguna Hills, CA, for 21 years, retiring in 1989. Shortly after, Orv and Pat moved back home to Kenosha.

With a profound faith, Orv was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was honored to have been chosen as Godfather to 13 family members and friends. He was an involved member of the Kenosha Family and Aging Council; past-chairman of the “Meals on Wheels” program; devoted volunteer with the escort / transport service program which assisted many residents throughout our community. Orv was also a member of the Danish Brotherhood. Among his interests, Orv enjoyed woodworking, especially handcrafting doll houses and cradles; was an accomplished photographer; and a true Walt Disney fanatic. Above all, Orv loved and cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Pat of Somers; their daughter, Joan Marie (Lyle) Moody of Yuma, AZ; granddaughter, Virginia (Carl) Palm of Alameda, CA; brother, Roger (Betty) Canfield; sister, Barbara Girton; sisters-in-law, Judith Canfield, Earlene (Mark) Girman, Juanita (Robert) Becker and Rachel (Bill) Zahn; extended family members, the Robert and Suzanne Moran family; and the Joseph and Jean Ruddy family; special friends, Jean and Bill Kaisler; Lori and Gary Karasti; Randy Smith; Jerry and Marie Soczynski; many dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents, Orv was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Canfield; and by Pat’s parents, Earl and Virginia (nee: Wade) Jornt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church (corner of 45th St. & 22nd Ave.) with Rev. Henry B. Maibusch OSA and Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Green Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and in the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m. In memory of Orv, memorials to the American Heart Assn. or Hospice Alliance have been suggested.
