Richard P. Pirk, age 67, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Richard was born in Racine, WI, on February 12, 1942, son of the late Walter R. and Gladys (Nee: Peck) Pirk and was a lifelong Racine resident.
Richard proudly served in the United States Navy. On November 25, 1961, at St. Rose Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Judith A. Lema. He was employed for over thirty years by the City of Racine as a street sweeper known to many as “Bumper.” Richard was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and several organizations including: Racine Instinctive Bowman Club, Salmon Unlimited Wisconsin, 5th Street Yacht Club, and ATV Club. For many years he was actively involved with his sons in RYS, Racine Scout Drum and Bugle Corps. and as a Webelo and Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, archery, boating, bowling and was a die-hard Bears fan. More than anything he treasured time spent with his family and will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Judith; his sons, Robert Pirk, Ronald Pirk, Donald Pirk, and Daniel Pirk; 21 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren with the sixth due in January; sisters, Nancy (Bill) Kroll, Sally (Truman) Grizzel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Teri) Lema, Julie Lema; his faithful chocolate lab, Bobby; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Pirk; two grandsons, David and Billy; and brothers, Walter I. Pirk and Jimmy Pirk.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Alan Bratkowski officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of service.
