Martha M. Bestul, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Martha was born in Mt. Carmel, North Dakota, on May 9, 1920, daughter of the late Michael and Balbina (Nee: Koehmstedt) Druar.
On April 27, 1949, at St. Mark Catholic Church, St. Paul, MN she was united in marriage to Harold G. Bestul, who preceded her in death on January 28, 2004. Martha and Harold owned and operated a family dairy farm for numerous years until their retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galloway, WI, and St. Bronislava, Plover, WI. Martha enjoyed embroidery, cross stitch, reading, puzzles, card games, baking and fishing; but more than anything she treasured time spent with her family and will be forever remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She will be dearly missed but cherished in precious memories by her children, Gregory (Phyllis) Bestul of Campbellsport, WI, Terrance (Sharon) Bestul of Chippewa Falls, WI, Stephen (Maria) Bestul of Mosinee, WI, LuAnn (Gene) Mueller of Hales Corners, WI, Christopher (Cindy) Bestul of Cleveland, WI, Randolph (Sharon) Bestul of Eau Claire, WI, Laurie (Mark) Lanoue of Sterling Heights, MI, Thomas (Angie) Bestul of Fond Du Lac, WI, Michael (Susan) Bestul of Racine, WI; her 24 grandchildren, Lisa (Scott) Swanson, Gerald (Dena) Bestul, Mary Bestul, Mike (Rebecca) Bestul, and James Bestul, Bryan Bestul, Paul Bestul, Nicolette Bestul, Joshua Bestul, Alyssa Mueller, Matthew Mueller, Justin (Stephanie ) Bestul, Michelle Bestul, Andrew Bestul, Sarah (Russ) Slack, Aaron Bestul, Shannon Lanoue, Katie Lanoue, Christina Bestul, David Bestul, Kimberly Bestul, Daniel Bestul, Lucy Bestul, and Bella Bestul; her great-grandsons, Jacob, Bryce, Brennen, and Gabe; brother, Sylvester (Rosemary) Druar of St. Paul, MN; sister-in-law, Bernice Danielson of Lake Geneva, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Rev. David Bestul; three brothers and six sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 8846 County Road C, Wittenberg, WI, on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Herb Zoromski officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Barry-Bestul Endowment Fund, c/o St. Bernard’s Parish, 2040 Hillside Lane, Green Bay, WI 54302 have been suggested.
