Leone M. (Mitchell) Anderson

Leone M. Anderson, age 94, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the Becker-Shoop Center. Leone was born in Racine, July 2, 1914, daughter of the late Frank and Antonina (Nee: Rice) Mitchell.

On January 23, 1933, in Racine she was united in marriage to Harvey Anderson, who preceded her in death on October 20, 1998. During World War II Leone riveted B17 bomber wings at the Case Company and was employed for twenty years at Fanny Farmer.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church and St. Ann’s Guild. Leone enjoyed bowling and was a member of Paradise West Bowling League. She always looked forward to her summers where she spent numerous hours teaching children how to swim at her home. Above all, Leone treasured time traveling up north and to Canada fishing with her family and will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her two daughters, Audrey Harmann of Sturtevant and Kathleen (Jerry) Eppers of Hayward, WI; two sons, Eugene (Winifred) Anderson and Mark (Kay) Anderson, all of Racine;
12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Connie) Mitchell of Racine and Donald Mitchell of FL; sisters, Nora Nielsen, Grace Paulson, both of Racine, Linda (Milton) Mogren of Atlanta, GA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Art Harmann; and brother, Frank (Betty) Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at St. Michael’s Church, 4701 Erie St., on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Terry McGugan officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
