Susan A. (Wirkus) Friso

Sturtevant -- Susan Ann Friso, age 61, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at her residence after a long and courageous battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was born in Waukegan, IL, on June 14, 1948, daughter of the late James and Delphus (Nee: Bauknecht) Wirkus.

Susan was raised in Racine and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1966.” She enjoyed sewing, miniature doll houses, and was an avid collector of “Winnie the Pooh” items. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Gerry; her son, Phillip (Tom Reinke); daughter-in-law, Christine Horton; grandson, Nicholas Friso; her brother, Mike (Cheryl) Wirkus of Racine; sister, Patricia (Gerard) Delleman of TX; brothers-in-law, Joe Friso, Jim (Mary) Friso, Tom (Margit) Friso, all of Racine; special cousins, Dave (Charlene) Bauknecht, Michelle (Dan) Hafner, Tom (Rose) Bauknecht, and aunt Viola Bauknecht, all of Antigo, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey, an infant son, Gerald Grant; two brothers, James and Scott Wirkus; and her special uncle, James Braden.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until time of service. Memorials to the Arthritis Foundation have been suggested as Susan was an avid supporter of their work and ever hopeful for a cure.
