John W. Foley

Attorney John W. Foley, age 79, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. John was born in Racine on July 31, 1929, son of the late Jeremiah J. and Rose I. (Nee: Welden) Foley.

John was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1947,” Marquette University and Marquette Law School. On April 18, 1959, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Karolyn A. Smith. John was an attorney and partner with Dye Foley Krohn & Shannon for 53 years until his retirement on December 31, 2007. John was a member and past president of the Racine County Bar Association, Marquette Law School Alumni Association, and the Wisconsin Bar Association. Always fascinated with politics he was an active member of the Republican Party.

John was also a member of the Racine Kiwanis Club and Racine Country Club. In his younger years he enjoyed downhill skiing and more recently enjoyed the game of golf. John was the foundation of his family and always proved to be a great source of love, strength and knowledge. Above all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Karolyn; his three daughters, Elizabeth (John) Schuessler, Stephanie Foley, all of Racine, Katherine (Kurt) Maxey of Kenosha; his two grandchildren, William Schuessler and Emily Maxey; brother, Edmund (Patricia) Foley; sister, Margaret Culotta; sisters-in-law, Ruth Foley, Sue (John) Helland, Rose (Peter) Christensen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Stopar; and brother, Jerome Foley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., on Friday, June 26, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Private family interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Kinzie Avenue. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Health Care Network or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
