Theodore A. “Ted” Zagar, 76, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Friday, June 12, 2009.
Ted was born in Racine on September 8, 1932, to Anthony and Tina (nee, Jensen) Zagar. Ted graduated from Park High School and attended U.S.C. while serving in the U.S. Air Force. On August 18, 1956, he married the former Barbara Simon in Racine. He retired from J.I. Case Company after more than 37 years of service.
Ted loved to laugh as well as make others laugh. He always enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. Ted was an avid Brewers and Packers fan and enjoyed playing baseball and bowling. He loved Jazz music and classic cars, frequenting Gus’s and Georgie Porgie’s.
Ted is survived by his wife, Barbara Zagar; children, Kim Marie Zagar, Anthony Wayne (Annamarie) Zagar and Matthew James (Sharon) Zagar; grandchildren, Sarah, Ted, Kerstin, Austin, Ryan, Kyle and Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Meghan, Sophia and Eric; and his brothers and sisters, Susan (Gene) Schatzman, James (Judy) Zagar, Sharon Gottfredson and Gary (Donna) Zagar; and sister-in-law, Beverly Zagar. Ted is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Zagar; sister, Sandra White; and brother-in-law, Robert Gottfredson.
Memorial services for Ted will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 7 p.m. Private family inurnment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers the family will be using memorial donations to provide a single memorial in Ted’s memory.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Mark DeCheck for being a good friend as well as his Doctor, and to Dr. Laeeq Shamsuddin and the staff at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints for all of their care and compassion shown to Ted.
