Del J. Ayers, age 89, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Del was born in Mineral Point, WI, on September 5, 1921, son of the late George and Evelyn (nee: Golliner) Ayers and been a resident of Racine since the age of 2.
Del graduated from Washington Park High School “Class of 1939.” Following graduation he proudly served his country as a Flight Officer in the U.S. Army Air Force. He later attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Layton School of Art. On August 6, 1966, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Hilda Simpson, and shared forty-five beautiful years together. Del was employed with the Maier Construction Company for over thirty years, last working as the Chief Estimator. Del was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, fishing, construction projects and tending to his yard. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife, Hilda; daughter, Kathryn (Dave) Treiber of Racine; brother, George (Pricilla) Ayers of VA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Del was also preceded in death by his brother, Edgar, and his sister, Fern Hlavaka.
A Memorial service followed by full military honors will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 745 Main St., Monday April 11, 2011, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Brad Van Fossen officiating. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church have been suggested.
