Dorothy M. (Riffer) Sohr

Dorothy M. Sohr, age 87, passed away Friday morning March 25, 2011, at her residence. Dorothy was born in Racine September 1, 1923, daughter of the late Henry and Harriet (nee: Maddron) Riffer.

On April 26, 1940, Dorothy married the love of her life, Harland Sohr, in Dubuque, Iowa, and has since shared seventy beautiful years together. During her twenty-eight years of retirement in Fort Meyers, FL, she enjoyed her time teaching crafts and her travels with Harland around the world. She will be best remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Harland; children, Deborah (Alan) Wentzell of Waterford, Richard Sohr of Racine; grandchildren, Ronald (Lisa) Wentzell, David (Maggie) Wentzell , Christopher Wentzell; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Nathan Wentzell, Carter Wentzell; sister, Betty Mayland of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law, Margaret Sohr of Nashville, TN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence, Wilbur, Bernie and Paul.

A Memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at 6 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. Memorials to the family have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to Dorothy’s caregiver, Sue Gorsinski, and to Wheaton-Franciscan-All Saints Hospice for all of their loving and compassionate care.
