Mary 'Marika' Mastous

Mary “Marika” Mastous, age 86, fell asleep in the Lord, Monday, March 21, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center with her niece and nephew, Georgia and Mike Barr, at her side.

Mary was born in Racine, August 1, 1924, daughter of the late Stanley and Irene (Nee: Massas) Mastous. Mary was a lifelong member of the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church. She loved reading, especially Emily Loring novels. Her favorite color was red.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Stamatia “Toula” Mastous; her nieces and nephews, Irene (Oreste) Lucchetta, Xanthe (James) Parker, Georgia (Michael) Barr, Chris (Julie) Kokinakis; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Peter, Gust, John; sister, Angie Kokinakis; and two nephews, Steve and Peter Kokinakis.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. at the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 1335 S. Green Bay Road, Hwy 31, with Rev. John Ketchum officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service at 9:30 a.m. Memorials to the Greek Orthodox Philoptochos Society have been suggested.

Mary’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses, CNA’s and aides at the Harmony Living Center, and Wheaton Franciscan 3rd Floor Med and Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. Your gifts are a true blessing from God.
