Elliott B. Wollman, age 86, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Elliott was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 2, 1924,, son of the late Charles and Eva (Nee: Weiss) Wollman and had been a Racine resident for over sixty years.
A graduate of Lafayette High School in 1942, Elliott attended Columbia University, graduated from the University of Miami with a B.A., B.Ed, and M.A. During World War II he served as a pilot with the United States Army Air Corps. On August 17, 1947, at Beth Israel Sinai Temple he was united in marriage to Shyla Slobodkin. Elliott’s employment history included Ben Franklin Variety Stores, Wheary-Hartmann Luggage Company, Twin Disc Inc., Wisconsin Department of Industry, Labor, and Human Relations of Wisconsin Racine and Kenosha Extension Center. He was a member of Beth Israel Sinai Temple, and served on the Education Committee.
Elliott was a member and actively involved serving numerous community organizations including: Boy Scouts of America as Veteran Scouter of seventy plus years, Vice President Area I (WI, IL, MI) Boy Scouts of America, Regional and National B S A Relationships/Board Communications, Executive Board National Jewish Committee B S A, Executive Board Southeast Wisconsin Council, B S A, Council Commissioner, Southeast Wisconsin Council B S A; Girl Scouts of Racine County Fund Development Committee, “Do-Dad”; President and board member of the Racine Symphony Orchestra; Mayor’s Commissions on Human Rights; National Committee of Christians & Jews Chairman Racine County; Racine Arts Board; Public Relations Chairman Racine Area United Way; and President of Racine County Blood Donor Group. He was also member of the Twin Disc “20 Year Club,” and Ellison Bay Men’s Club. A huge stamp collector, Elliott belonged to the Belle City Stamp Club. He also enjoyed fishing and fencing where he was member and served on the Midwest Olympic Selection Committee/Fencing and was charter member of the National Fencing Coaches Association. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, and the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity.
Elliott was the honorary recipient of the Silver Beaver Award B S A, Silver Antelope Award B S A, SHOFAR Award National Jewish Committee on Scouting USA, and the Silver Medal Award Sons of the American Revolution.
Survivors include his wife, Shyla S. Wollman; his son, Marc J. Wollman; his daughter, Bronna E. Wollman, all of Racine; grandson, Benjamin Wollman of Shorewood; special friend, Sandy Berezowitz; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Friday March 18, 2011, at noon, with Rabbi Dena Feingold officiating. Interment will follow at the Racine Jewish Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Friday from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon. Memorials to the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of U.S.A., or to the Birch Creek Music Performance Center, 3821 County E, Egg Harbor, WI 54235 have been suggested.
