Nancy L. (Samppala) Ekstrom

Nancy Lee Ekstrom, age 76, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at her residence. She was born in Mt. Iron, MN, on August 14, 1934, the 13th of 14 children of the late Samuel and Wilhelmiina (Nee: Mattila) Samppala.

Nancy was united in marriage to Clarence J. Ekstrom on July 24, 1965, and they moved to Racine in the middle 1960s. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1998. Nancy retired from One Hour Martinizing where she had been employed from 1983-1999. She was a member of First Church of God and attended Thursday Bible Study. Spending time with her family and friends is what she treasured the most. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her daughter, Wendy Ekstrom (Corey Chavours); brothers and sisters, Edwin Samppala of Ft. Worth, TX, Luella Van Meter of Grass Valley, CA, Katherine (Kenneth) Johnson of Gold River, CA, Carolyn Stephens of Casa Grande, AZ, Shirley (Norman) Kuntz of Mt. Iron, MN; sister-in-law, Mabel (Sherwood) Hamann of Ashland, WI; special friends, LaVerne Dykhuis and Rosa Andric; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at noon, at First Church of God, 1650 Lathrop Ave., with Pastor David Andrews officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service.
