Gayle J. Ducommun, 75, passed away Monday evening July 14, 2008, at her residence. Gayle was born May 27, 1933, in Santa Cruz, CA, daughter of the late Olaf and Thelma (nee: Caskey) Quick.
Gayle moved with her family to Lake Villa, IL, when she was eleven years old and then graduated from Schurz High school “Class of 1951.” On January 16, 1954, in Chicago, IL, she was united in marriage to Arthur Ducommun. Together they raised their children in Antioch until retirement when they moved to Door County. Following Arthur’s death in 2002 after forty eight years of marriage, Gayle relocated to Racine to be closer to her daughter. Gayle loved raising her family and enjoyed knitting, sewing, canning and gardening. She was an excellent interior designer with an emphasis in Contemporary and Early American styles. Above all, Gayle was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her son David (Lynanne) Ducommun of Durham, Ontario, Canada and his children, Kristina (Caleb) Dyck, Carrianne (Julian) Murphy, Jonathan and Mark Ducommun; her son Daniel (Joyce) Ducommun of Carlsbad, CA and their daughters April and Dana Ducommun; her daughter, Peg Ducommun of Racine; her great grandchild, Allistair Murphy; brother- in-law, Donald Smith of Pompano Beach, FL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Gayle was also preceded in death by her sister Marilyn Smith.
A Memorial service will be held at the funeral home Thursday August 7, 2008, at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Thursday from 1 p.m. until time of service .Gayle will be laid to rest next to her husband in Little Sister Cemetery, Door County, WI. Memorials to Hospice Alliance have been suggested.
