Norma G. Smith passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008. At the age of 83, she passed peacefully at her home with her loving companion and friend by her side, Ms. Muffie.
Norma was born December 18, 1924, in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Charles Leonard and Flora Anna (Nee: Strann) Landers.
Norma was employed by North Shore Bank for 31 years, retiring in May of 1995. Norma truly enjoyed her work at North Shore Bank and the many colleagues and customers that she encountered. Those colleagues quickly became lifelong friends. Jerry Calendrio and Arlene Lang are two such dear friends.
Norma was a member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling with her many gal pals over the years including Mary Botting, Tracy Balog and Betty Reynolds. She also enjoyed spending many weekends and summer vacations with her two granddaughters and her three brothers and their families. Her lifelong hobbies included reading and her beloved pets. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her two granddaughters, Dannielle M. Malone and her husband David of Racine, and Kelly P. Smith of St. Petersburg, FL; three great grandchildren, Michael G. Malone of Racine, Brooke and Hunter Davis of St. Petersburg, Fl (all whom lovingly referred to her as Nana). She is further survived by a brother, Frank Howard Landers and his wife Ruby of Peoria, IL; her loving daughter-in-law, Lynn Corbin of Sun City, FL.; numerous nieces, nephews which she enjoyed watching grow up and have children of their own which are from different areas of Peoria, IL, and of Myrtle Beach, NC. Long awaiting her arrival to heaven so they can be together again are her two beloved sons who sadly preceded her in death, Bernard Ralph Smith and infant son, Ronnie Lee Smith; brothers, Floyd Howard Landers and his wife Dorothy, and Ralph Charles Landers and his wife, Virginia “Dottie.”
Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home Monday July 7,2008, for visitation 3-5 p.m. and prayer service at 5 p.m. Private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Meals on Wheels have been suggested.
