Joseph C. Barranco

Surrounded by his family, Joseph C. Barranco, age 89, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Franciscan Villa, South Milwaukee. He was born in Racine, September 22, 1918, son of the late Dominic and Mary (Nee:Cinquegrani) Barranco.

Joe attended St. Joseph’s School and St. Catherine’s High School. On January 27, 1940, at St. Joseph Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Charlotte M. Metzger. During WWII from 1942-1945, Joe served in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in the South Pacific Theatre.

Joe was employed by Walker Mfg. for 42 years, retiring in 1978. He was a lifelong active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he served as an usher and member and past president of the Holy Name Society. Joe was also a member and past president of UAW Local 85. He was a devoted husband and father who loved being a grandpa. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man and his constant smile will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Charlotte; 4 children, JoAnne Barranco of Racine, Carol (William) Haigh of Gilbert, AZ, Patricia Robash of Racine, Mark (Terri) Barranco of Racine; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (J.R.) Couch of Chandler, AZ, John (Colleen) Robash of Milwaukee, Jamie Robash of Milwaukee, Joseph Barranco of Racine, Jacqueline Robash of Racine, Anthony Barranco of Kenosha, Ashley Robash of Racine; 3 great grandchildren, Taryn Barranco-Bazan, Ally and Jack Couch; 2 brothers, Angelo Barranco , Sam (Rita) Barranco all of Racine; 4 sisters, Adeline Sackman of NC, Susan Griffin of Rockford, IL, Rose (Gene) Bracker of Waukesha; Mary Balabuch of Plano, TX; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann (Mario) Covelli, Susan Metzger, Viola Metzger all of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Jacklyn Robash, a great-grandson, Jameson Couch; a brother, Frank; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Julie Barranco, Jane Barranco, Mary Metzger, Rose Metzger, Augie Sackman, David Griffin, Norbert Balabuch, Edward Metzger, Ben Metzger, Fred Metzger and Albert Metzger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 25, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., with Reverend John D. Aiello officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet Thursday at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or Franciscan Villa have been suggested.

A special thank- you to all the staff at Franciscan Villa for the loving and compassionate care given to Dad. You were his second family and he loved you all.
