Alan R. Anderson

Alan R. Anderson, age 86, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008, at his residence. Alan was born in Rockford, IL, September 30, 1921, son of the late Charles and Ruth Ninon (Nee: Arvidson) Anderson.

Alan graduated from Rockford High School in 1939, served in the United States Navy during World War II and graduated from Carthage College in 1950. On June 5, 1950, in Quincy, IL, he was united in marriage to Irma L. Niekamp from Ursa, IL. Alan and Irma began their life together in Carthage, IL, when he was employed by Carthage College in 1951. He served the college as Director of Admissions and then moved to Racine in 1962 to continue his work when the college was moved to Kenosha. Alan was appointed as the Administrative Assistant to the President in 1964, and also served as the Vice President of Development. After thirty five years of employment, he retired as President of Carthage in 1989. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree in 1988. As an active and longtime member of Bethania Lutheran Church, he also was involved with the Illinois Lutheran School of Theology and with the church synod work.

Alan was devoted to Kiwanis, being privileged to be one of the founders and charter members of the first Circle K Club in 1947. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Carthage, IL, and in Racine, and was elected Lt Governor in 1973. His civic activities in Carthage, IL, and Racine were numerous, including time as President of the board of the Red Cross and the board chairman of the Lincoln Lutheran Home. Alan loved the outdoors, his “hearts” group and traveling. Above all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by them and numerous friends.

Survivors include his wife, Irma; his three children, Ross (Heidi) Anderson of West Bend, WI, Jolene (Michael) Morris of Palatine, IL, Jane (Jack) Spencer of Bristol, WI; his grandchildren, Peter (Emily) Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, Benjamin Anderson, Lise (Dana) McCarthy, Aaron Morris, Glenn Morris, Annika Nielsen, Erick Nielsen, Greg Spencer, Jeff Spencer; his three great-granddaughters, Maggie Mae and Delaney McCarthy and Clare Anderson. He is also survived by two nephews, Culver Smith of Rockford, IL and Charles Carlin of Northfield, MN; along with family members in Jonkoping, Sweden; and his sister-in-law Christine Fisher of Panoma, IL. There are other nephews and nieces that also will miss him.

A Celebration of his life will be held at Carthage College Siebert Chapel, 2001 Alford Park Drive, Kenosha, WI, on Friday, October 3, 2008, at 3 p.m. A time of fellowship will follow the service at the college. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bethania Lutheran Church, Carthage College-Alan and Irma Anderson Scholarship Fund or to the Kiwanis International Foundation have been suggested.

Rebecca 'Beckey' L. Gatzow

Rebecca L. Gatzow, age 35, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008, at Woodstock Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kenosha, WI. Rebecca was born in Racine, November 22, 1972, daughter of Ernest H. Gatzow and Andrea G. (Nee: Proffitt) Gatzow.

Beckey was very artistic and enjoyed painting, designing, writing poetry and art. Becky was an advocate for Aids Awareness and her greatest passion was devoting her time and talent educating the youth throughout the state of Wisconsin. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her mother, Andrea Gatzow (Richard Vitacco) of Racine; her father, Ernest Gatzow of Wausau, WI; sister, Frances McDade of Racine; her grandmother, Mardell Proffitt of CA; niece, Malena; nephews, James and Andrew; aunts, uncles, other relatives, special friend, Stan Jagielski, and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until time of service.

Jaroslav Karbulka

Jaroslav Karbulka, 63, passed away unexpectedly Sunday September 28, 2008.

Jaroslav was born May 19, 1945 in Pardubice, Czechoslovakia, son of the late Vaclav and Jarmila (nee: Melounova) Karbulka. He came to the United States in 1969 following the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet Union. With the thought of his civil liberties and opportunities being stripped away, Jaroslav escaped to this country with a suitcase and five dollars in search of a new life with endless opportunity and the best place to raise a family.

Soon thereafter he convinced the love of his life, Jaroslava Sebkova to join him and they were united in marriage in Chicago on December 18, 1970. Together with his wife, through many hardships, with the perfect blend of grit, intelligence, ingenuity and determination, Jaroslav captured the American dream. He was employed with General Motors for over twenty five years until his retirement in 1994. He and his wife owned and operated the Racine Antique Mall downtown for the past 15 years. Jaroslav raised a wonderful family that could not treasure him more. He was a successful businessman and he earned the respect of all that knew him. He was an honorable man, never compromising his morals or his integrity in achieving his dreams. Jaroslav will be remembered fondly for his sacrifices, his vision, love and devotion. While Jaroslav will be missed beyond comprehension, his soul and spirit will permeate through his family forever.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly thirty eight years, Jaroslava; his son and daughter, David (Sarah) Karbulka, Daniela (Scott) Lehmkuhl; grandchildren, Alexander and Andrew Karbulka and Harrison Lehmkuhl, all of Racine; brother Vaclav (Ilona) Karbulka of Pardubice, Czechoslovakia; sister-in-law, Dagmar (Jan) Jirkovska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Stanley Arthur Miller

Kenosha - Mr. Stanley A. Miller, 89, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 27, 2008.

Stanley Arthur Miller was born in Tomah on May 2, 1919, to the late Chris and Olga (nee: Myrvold) Miller. In Racine, at Bethania Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Ellen P. Erickson on July 27, 1968.

Mr. Miller was a former member of the Bethania Lutheran Church. He served in the United States Army Infantry as a Sargent in Europe during World War II. He was employed at McGraw Edison. He retired in 1981 and he and his wife Ellen moved to Dunedin, Florida, for the next 27 years. He spent the last 6 months in Kenosha with his beloved family. Stanley was a private man who enjoyed shuffleboard, football, water sports and most of all his gardening.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ellen; one daughter, Nancy (Edward) Bellmore of Kenosha; three grandchildren, Lynn Sabatini of Gilberts, Illinois, Jerry (Carolyn) Bellmore of Bristol, and Robbyn Erickson of Racine; 3 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold (Catherine) Miller of Racine; one sister, Elsie Rashleger of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, John Erickson and one brother-in-law, Lawrence Rashleger.

A memorial service will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, October 3, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice Alliance of Kenosha.

Gloria Jane O'Brien

Gloria Jane (nee: Smith) O’Brien, 67, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center, surrounded with the love of her family, on Saturday, September 27, 2008, following a courageous eight-month battle with triple-negative breast cancer.

Gloria was born in Eau Claire on August 4, 1941, to the late Victor and Luella (nee: Strauch) Smith. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1959.

On November 18, 1967, Gloria was united in marriage with David Eugene O’Brien. She was employed by Peterson Machine / Pioneer Products from 1980 until she retired as Human Resources Manager in June of 2007.

As priority one, Gloria’s life revolved around her family. She was a fantastic cook and hostess, who loved to entertain at her home. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden and a good game of golf. Gloria was happiest when in the surroundings of her entire family.

Surviving are her loving husband, David E. O’Brien; children, Dawn (Brent Erickson) Larson of Portland, OR, Jennifer (Ryan Brohmer) O’Brien of Madison, David E. (Terri) O’Brien II of Kenosha and Kelly (Mike) Urbina of Morgan Hill, CA; adored grandchildren, Jessica (Anthony Manriquez) O’Brien, Melinda Larson, David, Nathan, Joshua, Matthew and Rachel O’Brien; and Shae Urbina; precious great-granddaughter, Karmyn Olivia Manriquez; sister, Patricia (Robert) Brown and niece, Susan (Mike) Broderick; mother-in-law, Francis O’Brien; sister-in-law, Darlene (Ed) Tanner; brothers-in-law, Duane (Dorothy), Richard (Alice), Delano, Daniel (Tyke) and Dennis (Priscilla) O’Brien; and by many other special nieces, nephews, relatives and treasured friends too numerous to mention by name.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Rev. Charlie Hansen officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Susan G. Michleen 'Mickey' (Riley) Knesting

Michleen M. Knesting, “Mickey,” age 61, passed away Friday, September 26, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital. She was born in Racine, July 3, 1947, daughter of Frank and Mary (Nee:Carney) Riley.

Mickey graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1965” and went on to graduate from Dominican College. On July 21, 1973, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Edward L. Knesting, who preceded her in death on August 30, 1998. Mickey was an educator employed by Racine Unified School District for 17 years, teaching at Knapp and West Ridge Elementary Schools. She was most recently employed by J. Reckner Associates, Inc. in marketing research. Mickey was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, especially the large print books at the Racine Public Library. Above all she was a loving daughter, sister, a dedicated wife and mother and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her daughter, Kristina M. Knesting; her father, Frank L. Riley; sister, Kathleen (Robert G.) Riegelman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernard (Sandy) Knesting, Pat (Paul) Roelli, Nancy Knesting, Donna Knesting; special friend, Jim Schimanski; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. James Jerdee

Racine and Mesa, Arizona - James Jerdee, 80, passed away on September 26, 2008, in Mesa, AZ. James was born in Sturtevant on June 17, 1928, the son of Kai and Evelyn (nee: Sorensen) Andersen. He was united in marriage to Audrey Andersen.

James was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. James was a former member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, the city of Racine 20-year club, and the Fourth Feast Committee. He served on the Racine Police Dept. for 30 years, retiring as Assistant Chief of Police. James was also a founding member of the Racine Traffic Investigation Unit. He found great enjoyment in fishing, golf, bowling, and always had a deep interest in planes and ships. James’ family presented him for his birthday the opportunity to co-pilot a World War II airplane. “Truly a dream come true.”

He enjoyed being a snowbird traveling between Mesa and Lyndon Station, also was able to travel to Hawaii, The Caribbean, Canada, and throughout the United States until poor health required him to make his permanent residence in Mesa.

James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Audrey; and their three children, Kai (Debbie) Jerdee of Racine, Vaughn (Ralph) Running of Smithsville, MO., and David Jerdee of Arizona. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Angela (Eric) Heth, Cara Jerdee, Christopher Running, Craig, Destiny and Davis Jerdee; four great-great-grandchildren, Cassandra Heth, Amaya, Nevaeh and Jesse Jerdee; and one sister-in-law, Mary (Rick) Green of Racine. James is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends in Racine, and especially his dear friends on “B” Street at the Resort in Mesa. He was preceded in death by one son, James Jerdee Jr., his parents, Kai and Evelyn Anderson, Kenneth Jerdee, and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Allen and Johanna Haigh.

Irene B. (Kellbach) Krause

Irene B. Krause, age 100, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008, at Lakeshore Manor. Irene was born in Wausau on March 18, 1908, daughter of the late Richard and Martha (Nee: Kriesel) Kellbach.

On February 11, 1926, in Waukegan, IL, she was united in marriage to Fred E. Krause who preceded her in death on June 8, 1986. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1936. She enjoyed playing the organ and traveling with her husband. She also loved cooking and baking and was known for her famous bread, apple pie and potato salad. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her two daughters, Carol Ohde of Racine and Virginia Doyle of Hinsdale, IL: her two grandchildren, Karen (Dennis) Nordentoft of Racine and David (Becky) Ohde of Cumming, GA; her three great-grandchildren, Christine (Dan) Lenczner, Julie (Todd) Hendricksand Jessica Ohde; five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Gianna, and Aspen Lenczner, Justin and Jacob Hendricks; sister-in-law, Ruth Kellbach of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Gertrude L. (Gersonde) Blaesing-Hanson

Gertrude L. Hanson, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at St. Monica’s. She was born in Racine on January 13, 1912, the daughter of the late Robert and Mathilda (nee: Massow) Gersonde, and had been a lifetime resident.

She was a member of Racine Bible Church where she had been the church secretary for several years, retiring in 1973. She attended Racine Public Schools and also Moore’s Business College. She had been a member of the church choir for many years and also sang with the RBC Choristers that broadcast over WRJN on Sunday evenings. Gertrude was also a Sunday school teacher and took part in the Daily Vacation Bible School ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Arthur E. Blaesing, and son, Thomas R. Blaesing, and her second husband, Carl J. Hanson, as well as her sisters, Ella Saylor and Hilda Pohorsky, and one brother, Clarence Gersonde.

Surviving are her grandson, Scott Thomas Blaesing of Wenatchee, WA; daughter-in-law, Debra (Blaesing) Downing of Scottsdale, AZ ; Janet Blaesing of Wenatchee, WA; nieces, Joyce (Virgil) Gillmore of Sturtevant, Patricia Mosgo of Westlake, OH, and Karen (Gerald) Calliari of St. Germain, WI; stepson, Floyd Hanson of Pleasant Prairie; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Blaesing of Farmington Hills, MI; Virginia Blaesing of Sumter, SC, and Evelyn Nelson of North Cape; special friend June Taube of Racine, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lee Brelsford Ives

Kenosha – Lee Brelsford Ives, born in Hancock, MI, on August 28, 1912, to Lee Emmett Ives and Florence (Scott) Ives, passed away on September 25, 2008, at Grande Prairie Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He is survived by a son, Lee D. Ives of Mundelein, IL; three daughters, Susan J. Burns of Hudson, WI, Sallie (William) Gravedoni-Pritchard of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and Florence (James) Ball of Brooklyn Park, MN; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Vivien Ives of Kerrville, TX, and a sister-in-law, Helga Ives of Youngstown, OH.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jane G.B. Poole; two brothers, David and Harry Ives; two sisters, Jean Ives and Edith Archibald; one granddaughter, Mary Sue Gravedoni.

Lee was engaged in the mining accounting profession, starting in 1934 through 1941 in Helena, Montana, in gold, silver, lead and zinc operations. He served on the Taxation Committee of the Montana Mining Association for several years. The remaining 36 years were in iron ore operations in Missouri, Michigan and Minnesota, where he retired in 1977 as controller and part owner of the Eveleth Taconite Company in northern Minnesota, a Ford Motor Company operation, managed by Oglebay, Norton Co. of Cleveland, Ohio. After 24 years of retirement in Morehead City, North Carolina, he moved to Wisconsin, where he spent the remaining years with his son-in-law and daughter, William and Sallie Pritchard, in Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie.

He was a member of Mesaba Lodge 225, Scottish Rite, Valley of Hibbing 14th Degree, Valley of Duluth 32nd Degree and Aad Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Duluth, MN. He was a member of American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for Separation of Church and State and a member of the U.S. Golf Assn.

Lee was an avid golfer. In 1994, at the age of 81, he was written up in Golfers Digest Magazine for playing the 18-hole Morehead City Country Club course in 79 strokes. He also shot a hole in one at the age of 80. In addition he was a great pool player. Another of his hobbies was his computer, which he self taught the use of, at the age of 85.

No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Cancer Center Fund, Inc., at 1700 West Highway 36, Suite 120, Roseville, MN 55113. In keeping with Lee’s wishes, he will be taken to North Carolina after cremation and his ashes will be spread in the Atlantic Ocean in the exact same spot of his late wife, Jane.

John F. Jorgensen

PINE RIDGE, FL -- John F. Jorgensen, age 87, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008, at the Becker-Shoop Center. John was born in Racine, April 5, 1921, son of the late Fred and Mattie (Nee: Christensen) Jorgensen.

John was a 1939 graduate of Washington Park High School. Furthering his education, he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he played trumpet in the University Marching Band and was a member of Psi Upsilon fraternity. During World War II, he went to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis and became a Lieutenant on a destroyer based out of Pearl Harbor. In 1944, John married June M. Kuehmstead (who preceded him in death in 2001). After the war, he worked as an engineer for J.I. Case, Massey-Ferguson and Webster Electric. He was then employed by Webster Electric as Sales Manager for over fifteen years.

John and June moved to Redington Shores, Florida, in 1970 where John was employed by Torquip Inc. until his retirement in 1996. While in Racine, John was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church and Holy Communion Lutheran Church where he served as treasurer. He was also a member of Meadowbrook Country Club. John enjoyed fishing, sailing, golfing, playing bridge and coin collecting. All his life, he was devoted to his family and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his daughter, Jane (Glenn) Knudsen of Racine; his son, Jim Jorgensen (Lisa Busby) of Palomar Park, CA; his grandchildren, Scott (Ronit) Jorgensen, Danny Jorgensen, Katie Jorgensen, Cannon Bonar; his great-granddaughter, Sienna Jorgensen; brother-in-law, Tony (Arden) Kuehmstead; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Reader; and brother, Lyle Jorgensen.

Private services were held on Sunday. Memorials to ones favorite charity have been suggested.

Leonard A. Thomas

Leonard A. Thomas, age 89, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at his residence. Leonard was born in Webster, South Dakota, August 12, 1919, son of the late John J. and Frances (Nee: Poplau) Thomas.

Leonard served as T5 Corporal in the United States Air Force, stationed in the Pacific Theatre. On July 26, 1943, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Koenig. He was employed for many years at J.I. Case Company, retiring in 1982. Leonard was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, and was a member and honor guard of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, hunting, golfing and gardening. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae; his four daughters, Patricia A. Martin of Minnesota, Leonora M. (James) Nehmer, Monica M. Helmut F. Dannhauser

Helmut F. Dannhauser passed away on Wednesday September 24, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital. Helmut was born in Grosswenkheim, Germany, on May 7, 1933, son of the late Franz and Marie (nee: Roess) Dannhauser.

On July 9, 1960, in Burgsolms, Germany, he was united in marriage to Waltraud M. “Wally” Wilhelm Dannhauser. Following their marriage, they moved to the United States to start their new life together. Wally preceded Helmut in death on December 15, 2005. Helmut was employed with P.D.I. for thirty five years until his retirement in 1998. He retired so he could work full time as a chef at the Pfister, a job he truly loved. He was employed there for thirty six years. Helmut was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the German Club. Helmut enjoyed the outdoors, working on his never-ending projects in his yard, his swans and wildlife in general. More than anything it was his family that gave him his most joy. He will be dearly missed.

Helmut is survived by his two very much loved sons, Steven (Jackie) Dannhauser of Racine and Markus (Julie) Dannhauser of Lombard, IL; and his two precious grandchildren, Sami and Stevie, which he loved and adored very much; brother Albin (Brigitte) Dannhauser of Munich, Germany; sister, Berta (Arthur) Röder of Hardt, Germany; dear family friend Karin Stier; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother Arno Dannhauser.

Martin 'Marty' S. Scolaro, Jr.

Martin “Marty” S. Scolaro, Jr., 72, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, following a courageous two-year struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Marty was born in Chicago, IL, on November 15, 1935, the son of the late Evelyn L. (nee: King) and Martin Scolaro, Sr. After serving four years in the United States Air Force as a mechanic and teacher, Marty returned to Chicago where he attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier.

In Chicago, Marty met and was united in marriage with Arlene (nee: Kunhart) Scolaro on July 18, 1964. Marty’s occupation, engineering, took his family to Racine for employment at J.I. Case Co. He also worked at American Motors, Bucyrus –Erie and retired from Snap-on Tools of Kenosha. In 2000, Marty and Arlene moved to Browns Lake in Burlington where he enjoyed his love of the water and boating.

Marty was a member of Christ Church United Methodist for 41 years where he served as a trustee and head usher. He was also a member of Roma Lodge where he enjoyed celebrating his Italian heritage. Among his interests, Marty enjoyed golfing, bowling, boating, photography and, most importantly, spending time with his family and his treasured grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 44 years, Arlene “Dee”; their sons, Kenneth M. (Amy) Scolaro and James M. (Marta) Scolaro, both of Racine; and Joseph A. (Cindy) Scolaro of Mt. Prospect, IL; his most precious grandchildren, Jonathan, Susan, Bailee, Emily and Marina; sister, Josephine Carbone of Boulder, CO; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Christ Church United Methodist, 5109 Washington Ave., with Rev. Jaime Nolla officiating. Irene (Callewaert) Schmidt

Mrs. Irene Schmidt, 86, passed away peacefully with her family beside her at All Saints Hospital/St. Mary's on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. She was born in Canada on Oct. 6, 1921, to the late Boudwin and Eliza Callewaert. She married the love of her life, Rudolph (Rudy) Schmidt on February 26, 1944, in Racine.

She is survived by her children, Dan and Peggy Schmidt and Sharon and Rick White. She found much pride and joy in her grandchildren, Tracey and Dave, Jeff and Barb, Jennie and Chris, Alex and Melissa and Kyle. She will forever be remembered for her “candy drawer.” Always in her thoughts were her six great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Jimmy), Zach, Reed, Erich, Aiden and Jack. They always brought a smile to her eyes.

She leaves her very special brothers and sisters, Joe, Frank (Ruth) Callewaert, Martha Burns, Laura Emmerling, Mary (Bob) Waraxa, Irma (Mike) Sturicz and sister-in-law Sue Callewaert. She very much appreciated your visits and was always glad to see each of you.

Carla Marie Carson

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – Carla Marie (nee: Roy) Carson, 43, currently of Chicago, formerly a long time resident of Racine, passed away on September 23, 2008, unexpectedly at her mother’s home. She was born in Milwaukee County on November 25, 1964, the daughter of Carl and JoAnn (nee: Petersen) Roy.

Carla was a graduate of Erik of Norway and had been employed as a hairdresser at Mr. David Hair Salon for many years. She loved music, movies, concerts, animals, flowers and the Minnesota Vikings. Carla was a very artistic, unique and loving person with a great sense of humor.

Surviving are her daughter, Erin Roy; grandchildren, Jesiah and Elanah; parents; brother, Brett (Michele) Roy; sister, Kris Martinez; longtime companion, Larry Polo; and two aunts, Roberta and Kim. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Carla was preceded in death by her grandparents and Uncle Chris.

Katharina (Brunner) Kowalski

Katharina Kowalski, age 89, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital. She was born in Germany March 4, 1919, daughter of the late Peter and Katharina (Nee: Schott) Brunner.

In 1948 in Regensburg, Germany, she was united in marriage to Manfred Kowalski. They immigrated to the United States in 1952 and made Racine their home. Manfred passed away in 1993. Katharina was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved to cook, travel and play cards especially Schafskopf. Above all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

Joan Tracy Anzalone

Joan Tracy (nee, Cecchini) Anzalone, 45, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008.

Joan was born in Kenosha on March 14, 1963, to Thomas M. and Doris J. (nee, Swanson) Cecchini. She was an Interior Design Architect and Vice President of United Construction Company.

Joan loved life. She lit up a room with her gorgeous smile and her attitude. Joan would go out of her way to help others before herself. She was a voracious reader and loved to play her grand piano. Joan was an avid athlete, enjoying skiing, snowmobiling, boating and playing golf. She also had a love for animals, but most of all, Joan was a loving mother and daughter.

Joan is survived by her children, Jessica D. Anzalone, Nikolas T. Anzalone and Dominic A. Anzalone; her parents, Thomas M. and Doris Joan Cecchini; brothers, David (Kurri) Cecchini, Mark T. (Debby) Cecchini and Thomas M. (Paula) Cecchini; niece, Nicole Cecchini; her former husband and children’s father, Rick D. KENOSHA -- Alan J. Sapko, age 54, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008, as a result of a tragic helicopter accident. Alan was born in Racine on September 11, 1954, son of John G. and Florence L. (Nee: Boswell) Sapko.

Alan was President and C.E.O. of Sapko International. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed vacationing, Harleys, boating, flying, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and good friends. He will be sadly missed.

John A. Sramek

John A. Sramek, age 67, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008, at his residence after a year and a half battle with pancreatic cancer. John was born in Duluth, MN, on June 20, 1941, son of the late Paul S. and Ruth J. (Nee: Skerik) Sramek.

John was a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth and received a BA in Chemistry and minor in Math. On June 16, 1963, at Endion Methodist Church in Duluth, MN, he was united in marriage to Iras Lewis. John was employed for nearly thirty-five years at SC Johnson in their Research and Development Department, last working as Senior Research Associate before his retirement in 1999. During his time at Johnson's he invented many novel polymers resulting in 25 patents. He was a member of various organizations including: American Chemical Society, Racine Yacht Club, Racine Rally Club, Platinum Point Yacht Club of Punta Gorda, FL, Poker Club, the Investments Club and Christ Church United Methodist. He enjoyed working on cars, making wine and travel. Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Norman Lashley

CALEDONIA – Norman Lashley, 76, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 21, 2008.

Norman was born in Arcadia, Missouri, on April 29, 1932, the son of Clarence and Kate (nee: Jackson) Lashley. On June 25, 1953, Norman was united in marriage to Anna Baker in Elkhorn City, Kentucky; they celebrated 55 years of marriage. He proudly served the United States Army during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant. Norman attended Allied School of Engineering in Chicago. He was a machinist, metal fabricator and designer, working at Western Publishing retiring with 30 years of service. Norman enjoyed gardening and literature. He was also a philosopher, poet and inventor.

Surviving are his wife, Anna, of Racine, and their children, Rickey (Marilyn) Lashley of New Berlin, Angela (Jeffrey) Wisniewski of Nashville, TN and Joel (Julie) Lashley of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Justin, Danielle, Colin, Jessica, Jonathan and Gregory; great-granddaughter, Lilly. Norman is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Full military honors and family remembrances celebrating Norman’s life with his poetry and a prayer service will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring St., on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at noon. Mary Lou Mielke

Mary Lou (nee: Buisse) Mielke, 86, passed away in Cresco, Iowa, (where she was residing to be close to her niece and family) on Sunday, September 21, 2008.

Mary Lou was born in Racine on June 22, 1922, to the late Bernard and Alice (nee: DeBates) Buisse. On July 24, 1962, she was united in marriage with Roy A. Mielke, who preceded her in death on November 8, 1987.

Mary Lou owned and operated Mary Lou’s Gift Shop on 16th Street for over 40 years until her retirement in 1991. Catholic by faith, she had been a member of St. Rose and St. Casimir Parishes. Mary Lou was also active with Citizens Against Crime and St. Monica’s Guild. She will be remembered for her kind-hearted spirit and her constant concern for the well-being of others.

Surviving are her beloved nieces, Barbara Mundfrom of Harmony, MN, Cathi Meir of Rochester, MN, and Pat Buisse of LaCrescent, MN; cousins, Grace Verhegge and Marcel (Helen) Desquire; and by other special nieces, nephews, other relatives and dedicated friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her brother, George (Beverly) Buisse.

Edwin Mrotek, age 69, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Edwin was born in Milwaukee, May 10, 1939, son of Edwin and Bertha (Nee: Rynka) Mrotek.

Edwin proudly served in the United States Navy. On June 15, 1963, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Milwaukee he was united in marriage to Mary L. New. Edwin was employed at Twin-Disc for twenty-five years until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church. He enjoyed sports, fishing, and scratch off lottery tickets. Seattle - Eric James Ludwig, 49, passed away suddenly at his residence in Seattle, WA, on Sunday, September 21, 2008. Eric was born in Racine, WI, on October 28, 1958, son of Dr. Richard J. Ludwig and the late Miriam M. (nee: Thomas) Post.

Dorothy I. (Olson) Bouwens Rockwell

Dorothy I. Bouwens Rockwell, age 89, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Wheaton-Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Dorothy was born in Osage City, Kansas, on December 23, 1918, daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Nee: Hedberg) Olson. Shortly thereafter they moved to Stromsburg, Nebraska.

Dorothy was employed for over eighteen years at Kiefer Leather Goods. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Moose Lodge and the Eagle’s Club. Above all she was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed.

Marion L. (Gerber) Dygon

Marion L. Dygon (nee: Gerber), age 75, passed away early Saturday morning, September 20, 2008, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Marion was born in Racine on December 31, 1932, daughter of the late George and Bertha (nee: Kanetzke) Gerber.

She was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1951.” Marion was united in marriage to William K. Dygon at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on January 10, 1953, where she was a lifetime member. William preceded her in death on May 1, 2005. Marion was a past president of the Racine Garden Club, and she was active in her earlier years with the Zoo Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting and sewing as well as beading, rosemaling and many other crafts. Generous with her time and talents, Marion knitted many blankets and booties for needy young mothers. More than anything, taking care of her family gave her the most joy. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her three sons, William Dygon (Jackie Grigg) of Oak Creek, David Dygon of Racine, Paul (Nora) Dygon of Wind Lake; grandchildren, Carrie (Aaron) Nagirny, Michael Dygon, Nicholas Dygon, Gretchen Dygon; sister, Marjorie Matson of Racine; brothers, Robert (Joyce) Gerber of Racine; Ralph (Mary) Gerber of Grand Island, FL; sisters-in-law, Karen (Fred) Schmidt, Jean (Richard) Elias, Penny Tower, all of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Marion was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Edward Matson.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 26, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. John D. Roekle officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association have been suggested.

Leda Annette Sity

Leda Annette (nee: Allred) Sity, 55, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2008, at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie.

She was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi, on October 7, 1952, the daughter of Albert and Cordie (nee: Linsey) Allred. On April 2, 1994, Leda was united in marriage to Douglas D. Sity in Waukegan, IL. Leda had been a receptionist for Racine Dental Clinic for 12 years. She was a member of Racine Bible Church.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Douglas; son and daughter-in-law, Jason (Emily) Crider; granddaughters, Sarah, Rachel and Hannah Crider; step-daughters, Ashley and Alexa Sity; father-in-law, Alex Sity; sisters, Doris Muedini, Sharon Allred, Beverly Ficca and Kathy Norval; brothers, Lamar, Douglas, Jim and Stanley Allred; best friend, Toni Watkins; close friends, Jean Cronk, Elaine Davis, Deb Thogerson, Pat Londre and Lisa Soderman. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Coarlyn Strawbridge; and mother-in-law, Evelyn Sity.

Funeral services will be held at Racine Bible Church, 12505 Spring St., on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Miesel officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials to Racine Bible Church or NOCC Ovarian Cancer Society have been suggested.

Theodore E. 'Teddy' Duchac

Theodore “Teddy” Edward Duchac, 54, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, September 19, 2008, as the result of a heart attack.

Teddy was born in Racine on April 11, 1954, to William and Stella (nee: Resch) Duchac. He graduated from St. Francis DeSales Seminary of Milwaukee in 1972. Following graduation, Teddy continued his studies in theology with the intentions of becoming a Catholic priest. That was, until he met the love of his life, Jane Marie Berchem. They were united in marriage on November 7, 1975, at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Union Grove.

For many years, Teddy has been employed by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Since 2000, he has served as a corrections officer at Racine Youthful Offenders Correctional Facility, with the current rank of Sergeant, not only providing discipline but “life guidance” in getting our youth back on track.

Teddy was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. He loved nothing more than being with his family. Passionate about his motorcycle, Teddy and Jane recently rode 3,300 miles on their bike, touring throughout the United States, and creating a lifetime of memories. He also liked to skydive and did so with his family and friends numerous times. Although to become a priest was not God’s plan for him, Teddy ministered to all those he met, encouraging them to live life to the fullest, every day, just as he did.

Most of all, he was a devoted husband, proud father and passionately involved grandfather who always put his family first. As great as the loss of Teddy is to us, much greater is the glory for Him. He will be sorely missed.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 33 years, Jane; their children, Julie (Ryan) Silich of Racine, Lisa (Rick) Helland of Kenosha, Jason (Leslie) Duchac and Matthew (Kristen) Duchac, both of Racine; grandchildren, Makennah Ingle (whom Teddy affectionately called “Pookie”) and her dad, Jason Ingle; Rayna Helland, Megan Duchac, Paige VanDusen, Logan and Taylor Staples; and was anxiously awaiting the birth of his 7th grandchild – due November 23, 2008; his father, William Duchac; brothers and sisters, Rose and Jim Patch, Michael Duchac, Scott (Sue) Duchac, Joe (Kathy) Duchac, Dave (Nancy) Duchac, Colleen (Jerry) Jossart, Tom Duchac, Jon (Foulla) Duchac and Brian (Donna) Duchac; father-in-law, Leo Berchem; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debbie Duchac, Luanne (William) Dorsey, Steve (Linda) Berchem, Michele Berchem and Harold Deschler; and by many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name including his fellow officers at RYOCF.

Teddy was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Stella; brothers, Patrick, Timothy and Mark Duchac; and mother-in-law, Delores Berchem.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 26, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating and Deacon Dan Burmeister assisting. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and, again in the funeral home, on Friday from 9-10 a.m. with a procession beginning at 10 a.m. to St. Lucy Church. In accordance with Teddy’s wishes, cremation will follow the services. In memory of Teddy, memorials may be directed to his family for the future education of his precious grandchildren – a contribution he entirely would have wanted.

Jane would like to extend her heartfelt gratitude to all her family and friends who have been so supportive during this tragic loss. Words could never express her true appreciation. God bless all of you!

Berta Louise Wagner

Berta Louise Wagner, 86, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Friday morning, Sept. 19, 2008. She was born in Bruch, Germany, on March 2, 1922, to the late Joseph and Magdalina Gebhardt. She lived in Racine since December 1956. She was united in marriage to Josef Wagner, in Bruch, Germany, on July 4, 1942; he preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1995.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kurt and Dolly Wagner of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Ernst Wagner of Tigard, Oregon, Erich and Sandy Wagner of Racine; two daughters and one son-in-law and fiancé, Christa Wagner and Graham Leupp of Cameron Park, CA, Erika and Steve Hetland of Racine; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 9000 Washington Ave., on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at 11 am. Entombment will follow the Garden Court Crypts.
