Leonard A. Thomas, age 89, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at his residence. Leonard was born in Webster, South Dakota, August 12, 1919, son of the late John J. and Frances (Nee: Poplau) Thomas.
Leonard served as T5 Corporal in the United States Air Force, stationed in the Pacific Theatre. On July 26, 1943, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Koenig. He was employed for many years at J.I. Case Company, retiring in 1982. Leonard was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, and was a member and honor guard of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, hunting, golfing and gardening. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae; his four daughters, Patricia A. Martin of Minnesota, Leonora M. (James) Nehmer, Monica M. Thomas, both of Racine, Mary Beth (Darrell) Tukua of Minnesota; brother, Francis J. Thomas of Wausau, WI; sister, Isabelle Worley of Tacoma, WA; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Richard Martin; his grandson, Lorne A. Martin; brother, Clarence G. Thomas; sisters, Marcella (Walter) Horst, Bernice (Jack) Jesse; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3100 95th Street, Sturtevant, WI, on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Paul Raczynski officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Sunday from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. followed by Mass at 6 p.m.
