Fredrick H. Litzkow

Fredrick H. Litzkow, age 88, passed away Monday, September 15, 2008, at Ridgewood Care Center. Fredrick was born in Racine July 7, 1920, son of the late Fredrick W. and Anna (Nee: Zessin) Litzkow and was a lifelong resident of Racine.

Fredrick was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1938.” On January 29, 1944, at St. John’s Lutheran Church he was united in marriage to Ruth Haack. He and his wife owned and operated the Park Inn Restaurant from 1946 until 1993. He was also a licensed realtor and real estate developer. Fredrick was a member for over fifty years of the Racine Dairy Statesman where he served as president and board member, and was the recipient of the B.O.T.Y. award. He also sang with the Tune Tossers and the 4 Phrogs quartets. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. Fred will be remembered fondly for his creative vacations and travels with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-four years, Ruth; his daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann (Fred) Schmidt, Joan (Bob) Miller, all of Racine; his grandchildren, Bryon (Carri) Schmidt, Kristin (John) Avery, Trever (Wynn) Miller, Traci Miller, Tory (Lili) Miller; his six great-grandchildren, Cole and Alle Schmidt, Caleb Avery, Dawson, Isa, and Daniel Miller; sister, Louise Damaschke of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his three sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna Litzkow, Volley (Jim) Schaefer, Elsie (Harry) Kwenski, and Paul Damaschke.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Quinn officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Racine Lutheran High School or to the Racine Dairy Statesman have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. James Simonds, staff at Ridgewood Care Center, and to Erin and the staff at Odyssey Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
