Gertrude L. (Gersonde) Blaesing-Hanson

Gertrude L. Hanson, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at St. Monica’s. She was born in Racine on January 13, 1912, the daughter of the late Robert and Mathilda (nee: Massow) Gersonde, and had been a lifetime resident.

She was a member of Racine Bible Church where she had been the church secretary for several years, retiring in 1973. She attended Racine Public Schools and also Moore’s Business College. She had been a member of the church choir for many years and also sang with the RBC Choristers that broadcast over WRJN on Sunday evenings. Gertrude was also a Sunday school teacher and took part in the Daily Vacation Bible School ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Arthur E. Blaesing, and son, Thomas R. Blaesing, and her second husband, Carl J. Hanson, as well as her sisters, Ella Saylor and Hilda Pohorsky, and one brother, Clarence Gersonde.

Surviving are her grandson, Scott Thomas Blaesing of Wenatchee, WA; daughter-in-law, Debra (Blaesing) Downing of Scottsdale, AZ ; Janet Blaesing of Wenatchee, WA; nieces, Joyce (Virgil) Gillmore of Sturtevant, Patricia Mosgo of Westlake, OH, and Karen (Gerald) Calliari of St. Germain, WI; stepson, Floyd Hanson of Pleasant Prairie; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Blaesing of Farmington Hills, MI; Virginia Blaesing of Sumter, SC, and Evelyn Nelson of North Cape; special friend June Taube of Racine, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, September 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Miesel officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, September 29, 2008, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Racine Bible Church’s Missionary Fund.

“A special ‘thank you’ to Pastor John Miesel and Dr. Gregory Culen, as well as St. Monica’s nurses and staff for their excellent care and kindnesses to Gertrude. This was also true of the Odyssey Healthcare Hospice personnel and Stoyka (Toni) Loukova during the last few weeks of Gertrude’s life. Thank you all for your support, love and care of Gertrude!”
