George G. Smieding, age 82, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. George was born in Racine on December 30, 1925, son of the late Dr. George and Eva (Nee: Dowling) Smieding.
During World War II he served in the United States Army in the European Theatre. On November 28, 1947, in Germany he was united in marriage to Anneliese Wormsbacher. George was employed by Western Publishing for over twenty years and belonged to their “20 Year Club.” Above all he treasured time spent with family and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Anneliese; his chidren, Edith “Sandy” (Richard) Painter of Racine, Michael (Kathy) Smieding of Eau Claire; his grandchildren, Christopher Biemeck of Milwaukee, Jeffrey (Sara) Smieding of Minneapolis, MN; his great-grandsons, Rook Biemeck, Henry Smieding; other relatives and many dear friends.
Private services were held with interment at Graceland Cemetery.
