Katharina Kowalski, age 89, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital. She was born in Germany March 4, 1919, daughter of the late Peter and Katharina (Nee: Schott) Brunner.
In 1948 in Regensburg, Germany, she was united in marriage to Manfred Kowalski. They immigrated to the United States in 1952 and made Racine their home. Manfred passed away in 1993. Katharina was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved to cook, travel and play cards especially Schafskopf. Above all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her children, Marianne (Gary) Scherfer, Robert (Rosita) Kowalski all of Racine; grandchildren, Monica ( Scott Henry) Scherfer, Cinthia (Greg) Kitson, Debbie (Barry) Schultz, Bernd (Nicole) Zimmermann; 7 great-grandchildren, Alexander and Connor Henry, Christopher and Brandon Henry, Christopher and Caitlin Schultz, Kendal Zimmermann; a sister, Anni Wirth, and brother, Joseph Brunner, both of Germany ; sister-in-law, Selma Kowalski and Margaret Kowalski; special friends, Jeanette, Jennifer and Joan; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 728 Villa St., on Thursday, September 25, 2008, from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by funeral services at noon with Reverend John Roekle officiating. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice have been suggested,
