John A. Sramek

John A. Sramek, age 67, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008, at his residence after a year and a half battle with pancreatic cancer. John was born in Duluth, MN, on June 20, 1941, son of the late Paul S. and Ruth J. (Nee: Skerik) Sramek.

John was a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth and received a BA in Chemistry and minor in Math. On June 16, 1963, at Endion Methodist Church in Duluth, MN, he was united in marriage to Iras Lewis. John was employed for nearly thirty-five years at SC Johnson in their Research and Development Department, last working as Senior Research Associate before his retirement in 1999. During his time at Johnson's he invented many novel polymers resulting in 25 patents. He was a member of various organizations including: American Chemical Society, Racine Yacht Club, Racine Rally Club, Platinum Point Yacht Club of Punta Gorda, FL, Poker Club, the Investments Club and Christ Church United Methodist. He enjoyed working on cars, making wine and travel. Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Iras; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynette (Michael) Knight of Grayslake, IL, Robin (Alan) Church of Penn Laird, VA; his four grandchildren, Nicolas and Brayden Knight, Tyler and Savannah Church; sister, Ruth Ann (Joe) Alexander of Aiken, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law Larry (Ruth Ann) Lewis of International Falls, MN, Jerry (Ethel) Lewis of Duluth, MN, Sandra Chase of Baxter, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Sramek and his brother-in-law Robert Chase.

A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Martha Jackson-Oppeneer officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity have been suggested.
