Sister Mary Patricia (Coronata) Mason, O.P.

Sister Mary Patricia Mason, O.P., 92, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, on Friday, September 12, 2008.

Mary Patricia was born April 11, 1916, to Patrick and Mary (nee: Johnson) Mason in Lewisport, KY. On August 3, 1932, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1933 she was given the religious name Sister Coronata. She professed her first vows in 1935 and her final vows in 1941. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name Mary Patricia.

Sister Mary Patricia spent many years in service to others in the field of Education. She began her ministry in 1934 at St. Patrick, Racine, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Mary, Kenosha; Pio Nono (Thomas More) High School, Milwaukee; St. Edward and St. Catherine High School, Racine. From 1964-1970 she was the Vicaress of St. Catherine Convent. She also served in Nebraska at Osmund General Hospital as a Medical Records Clerk. After retuning from Nebraska she became a resident at Siena Center and worked at St. Catherine High School for many years as the Director of St. Catherine’s Alumni. In March 2008 she moved to Lakeshore Manor.

Sister Mary Patricia is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Mathew (Edna) Mason.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Tuesday, September 16, at 10 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
