Fresno, CA -- Augustus Eugene Comande, “Gus,” age 91, passed away Tuesday August 18, 2009. He was born in Racine, January 7, 1918, son of the late George and Frances (Nee: Fabiano) Comande.
Gus graduated from St. Catherine’s High School. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army stationed in the South Pacific Theatre and then in the European Theatre, returning to America aboard the Queen Mary. Gus worked at American Motors Corp. for a number of years and moved to California in 1953. On September 19, 1954, in San Francisco, he was united in marriage to Lily “Lee” Armienti. They made their home in Daly City, moving to Fresno five years ago to be near their son. Gus retired from the Sate of California University System where he was employed for 26 years. He will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Lee; his son, Lyle (Dee) Comande; brother, Nick A. (Isabella) Comande of Racine; brother-in-law, Dominic LoPiccalo of Racine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Josephine (Joseph) LoPiccalo, Sarah Comande, Rose (Walter) Kozich, Anna (James A.) Marino, Victoria LoPiccalo, and an infant brother, Nick.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held Monday, August 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Cemetery, Fresno, CA.
