Jane attended Barrett College and the University of Wisconsin. On July 26, 1952, in Fond du Lac she was united in marriage to John B. Gittings. Jane was active in the Racine community. She volunteered at Children’s House, was a member of the Junior League, was a board member and past president of both the YWCA and Wustum Museum. She was instrumental in RAM’s downtown expansion. Jane enjoyed golf, tennis, the arts and traveling. Above all she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed.Surviving is her husband of 57 years, John; three children, Susan (Gus) Ernst of Elkhart Lake, WI, Richard (Marjorie) Gittings of Stuart, FL, Carolyn (William) Edwards of Orinda, CA; three grandchildren, Jonathan Ernst, Richard Gittings and Nicole Gittings; a sister, Helen (Edward) Lewis of West Palm Beach, FL; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, William (Theo) Gittings of Racine; Mary Gittings of San Francisco, CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Robert Gittings.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Ronald O. Crewe officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to Prairie School or RAM have been suggested.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert Gullberg, the staff at Willowgreen, Acera Care Hospice, Wheaton Franciscan All Saints and ER Staff for their loving and compassionate care.
