Sister Imelda (Incarnata) Kaltenbach, O.P.

Sister Imelda Kaltenbach, O.P., 92, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine on Sunday, August 23, 2009.

Imelda Amanda Kaltenbach was born August 10, 1917, to Gerson and Johanna (nee: Lieble) Kaltenbach in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On August 30, 1933, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1934 she was given the religious name Sister Incarnata. She professed her first vows in 1936 and her final vows in 1942. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name Imelda.

Sister Imelda served many years in ministry to others in food service and domestic work. She began her ministry in 1935 at St. Rita, Racine, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Mary, Tomah; St. Francis Xavier, Merrill; Holy Angels and Calaroga, Milwaukee. In 1940 she began her ministry as Manager of the Laundry at St. Catherine's Convent and later at Siena Center, Racine. In 2004 she became a resident at Lakeshore Manor, Racine.

Sister Imelda is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brothers Robert (Lorraine) and Theodore; her sisters Loretta Fehring and Leona (Leroy) Schueller; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Herbert; and her sister, Elma Hacbarth.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday, August 26, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4:30 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery on Highway 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
