Sturtevant -- Bernelda M. Husman peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by family members on Wednesday, August 19, 2009. Bernelda was born on April 24, 1906, in St. Charles, MN. She came to Racine after marrying Henry Husman in 1926. Henry died in 1991.
She is survived by a daughter, Carrol (Reinhart) Dykstra of Sturtevant, son-in-law, Robert Knudson, seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, twenty-three great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon and Allen Schutten, Shirley Knudson, great-grandson, Andy Dykstra,; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vern and his wife Bernice, Arny and his wife, Emily.
Bernelda sent her daughters to Lutheran schools and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and for the past 26 years a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sturtevant. Her activities through the church were very important to her. She was known for her quilts and crafts and her love of family and the Lord.
Many people will remember seeing Bernelda at the Red Cross Drug Store on Sixth Street. She worked behind the cosmetic counter for 38 years.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 8500 Durand Ave., Sturtevant, on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Mortenson officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may meet with the family at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church.
