John Louis Spaeth was born in New York City on May 23, 1941, to the late Camille and Ida (nee, Therrien) Spaeth. He died August 14, 2008, at age 67 at his home in Racine, WI. He was raised in Yonkers, NY, and was a graduate of SUATI, Farmington, NY (AAS); University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, WI (BA); and Aurora University (Med.)
John had served as a cryptanalyst in the U.S. Army overseas in Korea. After his military service, he was employed at GMAD in Janesville, WI, as an assembler before serving as a teacher and substitute in the Racine Unified School District for thirty years. He had been a proud member of REA, WEAC and NEA. Also he served one term as a Racine County Board Supervisor.
John is the loving brother of Ann Spaeth of College Station, PA; Adele (Fred) Colver of Beeville, TX; Edmond (Merrill) Spaeth of Fishkill, NY and Genevieve (Joseph) Magliari of Darien, CT; and was an uncle to a nephew, many nieces and grand-nephews.
Memorial services for John will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Although not blind, John was very nearsighted and, as a prolific reader, he knew the preciousness of his sight and he also always valued the companionship of his pet dogs. He requested, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to either of the following organizations: Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Yorktown Heights, NY, or the Seeing Eye, Inc., Morristown, NJ.
