Evelyn M. Schleper, age 85, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Evelyn was born in Racine, February 17, 1923, daughter of the late Harold and Bertha (Nee: Neuman) Buchman and was a lifelong resident of Racine.
Evie had a lifetime love of learning and had four master's degrees. As a librarian, she began the St. Joseph Library and worked at Marquette University, Franklin Library, St. Thomas Aquinas in Waterford among others. She was working at Midwest College of Oriental Medicine as Dean of Students until her recent illness.
Survivors include her sister, Gerry Shimkus; nieces, Sandy Sus, Judy (Bryan) Krist, Barbara Sprague; great nieces and nephews, Kris, Kim, Joe, Tina, Heather and Jason. Among her special friends were Jan Klein, Elaine Raymaker, Pat and Lou Ferraro, and Sister Davida from Siena Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Ingle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie Street, on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.
